o Redwood City-Based E8 Security Raises $9.8M, Emerges from Stealth

Redwood City, Calif. -- E8 Security, a Redwood City-based developer of security analytics designed to help users thwart malicious insider threats and targeted cyber attacks, said on Tuesday it has emerged from stealth mode after raising $9.8 million in its first round of funding. March Capital Partners led the round, which also included participation from Allegis Capital and The Hive. The company, whose platform is currently in private beta, said it will use the proceeds to bolster product development and expand its engineering and development teams. E8 said its platform will provide security professionals with new analytics and visualization tools designed to better identify patterns, trends and activities.

o Hayward-Based RayVio Emerges from Stealth with $9.3 Million Round

Hayward, Calif. -- RayVio, a Hayward-based provider of UV LED consumer disinfection tools, said on Tuesday it has raised $9.3 million in its second round of funding, emerging from stealth. New investors Applied Ventures, Augment Ventures, New Ground Ventures and Tolero Ventures joined previous backers DCM Ventures and Capricorn Investment Group in the round, which the company will use to accelerate its go-to-market strategy, grow its team and bolster sales and marketing. RayVio said its technology can be used to do things such as purify drinking water, treat major illnesses and instantly disinfect surfaces. RayVio said it and partners plan to announce a series of products later this year.

o San Francisco-Based popexpert Acquires Online Marketing Institute

San Francisco -- popexpert, the San Francisco-based developer of an online marketplace that lets users access and offer expertise on numerous subjects, said on Tuesday it has acquired the Online Marketing Institute, a provider of online corporate training programs. Financial terms of the cash and stock deal were not disclosed. Aaron Kahlow, founder of the San Francisco-based Online Marketing Institute, will become popexpert's new CEO. Ingrid Sanders, the founder of popexpert, will remain president. "Joining forces with popexpert allows us to combine the personalization of live coaching with the scalability of e-learning," said Kahlow. popexpert is backed by Silicon Valley investors including Jeff Skoll, Ken Howery and Learn Capital.

o Rocket Fuel Names Randy Wootton as Chief Revenue Officer

Redwood City, Calif. -- Rocket Fuel, a developer of artificial intelligence advertising and marketing tools, on Tuesday named Randy Wootton as its inaugural chief revenue officer. Wootton most recently served as the vice president of customer success products at Salesforce, and also previously served in a variety of executive sales positions over the course of six years at Microsoft. In his new role, Wootton will aim to deepen customer relationships within agencies and enterprise marketers.

o Stanford Heads U.S. News List of Top Business Schools

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Stanford University has the nation's top-ranked business school, according to U.S. News & World Report's newly released annual list. The rankings are based on surveys conducted with all 464 accredited master's programs in business, and consider factors such as quality of the programs, placement success and student selectivity. Stanford topped Harvard and Penn at the top of the list. Cal-Berkeley's Haas School also ranked No. 7. The complete rankings are available at the link below.

o Sensity Systems Names Scott Shipman as Chief Privacy Officer

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Sensity Systems, a Sunnyvale-based company that uses LED lighting as the foundation for a high-speed, sensor-based light sensory network (LSN), on Tuesday named Scott Shipman as its chief privacy officer. Shipman was previously the associate general counsel and chief privacy officer at eBay. In his new role, Shipman will work with governing bodies, businesses and others to build regulatory practices around LSNs and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) implementations. "As we transform billions of LED lights worldwide into connected devices to help cities better manage their complex infrastructure and provide real value to their citizens, privacy will be a crucial element," said Hugh Martin, Sensity's chairman and CEO.

(Palo Alto, Calif.) Palo Alto-based Hercules Technology Growth Capital, a provider of senior secured loans to venture capital-backed technology companies, has named Susanne Lyons to its board of directors. Lyons, the former CMO of Visa USA, will serve on the board's audit, compensation, and nominating and corporate governance committees.

(Palo Alto, Calif.) Palo Alto-based Bill.com, a developer of digital business payments technology, on Tuesday named Colleen Lindow as its vice president of payments, risk and compliance. Lindow previously led payment operations and strategic partnerships for online payments services company YapStone.

(San Francisco) San Francisco-based Docker, the company behind the Docker open platform for distributed applications, on Tuesday named Iain Gray as its senior vice president of customer success. Gray most recently was the vice president of customer success at Pivotal, and earlier was the vice president of global services at Red Hat.
