Redwood City, Calif. -- E8 Security, a Redwood City-based developer of security analytics designed to help users thwart malicious insider threats and targeted cyber attacks, said on Tuesday it has emerged from stealth mode after raising $9.8 million in its first round of funding. March Capital Partners led the round, which also included participation from Allegis Capital and The Hive. The company, whose platform is currently in private beta, said it will use the proceeds to bolster product development and expand its engineering and development teams. E8 said its platform will provide security professionals with new analytics and visualization tools designed to better identify patterns, trends and activities.

o Hayward-Based RayVio Emerges from Stealth with $9.3 Million Round

Hayward, Calif. -- RayVio, a Hayward-based provider of UV LED consumer disinfection tools, said on Tuesday it has raised $9.3 million in its second round of funding, emerging from stealth. New investors Applied Ventures, Augment Ventures, New Ground Ventures and Tolero Ventures joined previous backers DCM Ventures and Capricorn Investment Group in the round, which the company will use to accelerate its go-to-market strategy, grow its team and bolster sales and marketing. RayVio said its technology can be used to do things such as purify drinking water, treat major illnesses and instantly disinfect surfaces. RayVio said it and partners plan to announce a series of products later this year.

o San Francisco-Based popexpert Acquires Online Marketing Institute

San Francisco -- popexpert, the San Francisco-based developer of an online marketplace that lets users access and offer expertise on numerous subjects, said on Tuesday it has acquired the Online Marketing Institute, a provider of online corporate training programs. Financial terms of the cash and stock deal were not disclosed. Aaron Kahlow, founder of the San Francisco-based Online Marketing Institute, will become popexpert's new CEO. Ingrid Sanders, the founder of popexpert, will remain president. "Joining forces with popexpert allows us to combine the personalization of live coaching with the scalability of e-learning," said Kahlow. popexpert is backed by Silicon Valley investors including Jeff Skoll, Ken Howery and Learn Capital.

Shipman was previously the associate general counsel and chief privacy officer at eBay.
