o Palo Alto-Based HP to Acquire Aruba Networks in $3 Billion Deal

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Following several days of speculation, Palo Alto-based technology giant HP said on Monday it will acquire Sunnyvale-based Aruba Networks, developer of wireless network infrastructure, in a deal valued at $3 billion. HP will pay $24.67 a share in cash under the deal, which is expected to close by the end of October. The acquisition is expected to boost HP's networking business, with the company relying on Aruba's strong brand and sales structure to sell faster mobile technology to businesses. Dominic Orr, Aruba's CEO, will lead the new "converged campus" business, along with Keerti Melkote, the company's chief strategy and technology officer. "Enterprises are facing a mobile-first world and are looking for solutions that help them transition legacy investments to the new style of IT," said Meg Whitman, the chairman, president and CEO of HP. Aruba has approximately 1,800 employees and posted revenue of $729 million last fiscal year. The acquisition is a departure for HP, which recently has been in cost-cutting mode and plans to split into two independent companies later this year.

San Jose, Calif. -- Brocade, the San Jose-based networking technology giant, said it will pay an unspecified amount of cash to acquire Spain-based Connectem, a developer of virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) technology. The deal is expected to close by the end of April. Brocade said the acquisition will bolster its software networking and virtualized network functions, enabling service providers and enterprises to offer connectivity between mobile and Internet of Things devices, data centers, as well as public and private clouds. "We believe the Connectem technology is a key enabler for emerging markets including IOT, M2M, Industrial Internet and enterprise mobile data services," said CTO Ken Cheng. Connectem will operate as part of Brocade's Emerging Business Group.
