Accelerate-IT Ventures led the round, which also included participation from Vanedge Capital and previous backers Epic Ventures, Granite Ventures, Trident Capital, Cisco, Fortinet, Intel and VMware. HyTrust plans to use the funds to boost marketing, sales and product development initiatives, as well as expand into international markets. City National Bank provided the venture debt and credit facilities. Brian Nugent, founding principal and general partner at Accelerate-IT, will join the company's board of directors. HyTrust's software is designed to secure data centers by automating data protection and continuously enforcing security policies for those operating private, hybrid and public clouds.

o Cupertino-Based TaaSera Raises $4.1 Million in Bridge Funding

Cupertino, Calif. -- TaaSera, a developer of cybersecurity technology with dual headquarters in Cupertino and Virginia, said on Wednesday it has raised $4.1 million in bridge funding -- the first part of a planned $15 million second round. The company, which now has raised $19.4 million since its inception in 2012, said it will use the new funds to bolster sales and marketing activities, as well as further develop its core platform. TaaSera's NetTrust platform, developed in conjunction with SRI International, uses behavior detection and analytics technology to detect evidence of pending data breaches before data is lost or stolen. The platform has been installed by more than 50 clients over the past two quarters. "This latest financing signals investor confidence in company management, technology and sales performance," said CEO Scott Hartz, the former CEO of PwC Consulting.

San Jose, Calif. -- CipherCloud, a San Jose-based developer of cloud security technology, said it has acquired technology from Anicut Systems, a provider of adaptive security as a service. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. CipherCloud said the acquisition will bolster its cloud discovery, data protection and monitoring platform through additional intelligence and security controls. "We are making this investment to go deeper into cloud visibility and security given the clear demand," said founder and CEO Pravin Kothari.

Pleasanton, Calif. -- MegaPath, a Pleasanton-based provider of voice, data, security and cloud services, said on Wednesday it has completed the $152.3 million sale of its managed services business to Virginia-based GTT Communications. The deal, which includes $144.8 million in cash and the remainder in stock, was first announced in February. The division provides private networking, access services and managed security services to more than 500 large clients.
