o Wells Fargo Selects Clean Technology Startups for Incubator

San Francisco -- Wells Fargo & Company, the San Francisco-based financial services giant, on Thursday named four clean tech startups to take part in its Innovation Incubator (IN2), a five-year, $10 million program aimed at developing environmental technologies. The program is funded by the Wells Fargo Foundation and co-administered by the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). In this first of three selection rounds, four companies -- Oregon-based Energy Storage Systems, Minnesota-based LiquidCool Solutions, Chicago-based SmarterShade and San Francisco-based WattStick Systems -- were selected from more than 80 applicants. Each is eligible for up to $250,000 in cash and services, and will receive research and testing support at NREL's research facility in Golden, Colo., as well as coaching and mentorship. "To address growing climate concerns, it is absolutely crucial to accelerate investments in innovative companies that provide clean technology solutions," said Mary Wenzel, Wells Fargo's head of environmental affairs.

o Study: Facebook Still Dominant Social Network Among U.S. Teens

Washington, DC -- Despite a growing number of options, Facebook still remains the dominant social media platform for American teens, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center. All told, 71% of teens currently use Facebook, compared with 52% for Instagram, 41% for Snapchat, 33% for Twitter and Google +, 24% for Vine and 14% for Tumblr. "Even as Facebook remains an important platform for a majority of teens, Instagram is commanding the attention of half of teens, and Snapchat nearly that number," said Amanda Lenhart, Pew's associate director for research. "There are some interesting differentials in the most frequently-used social platforms, with lower income teens using Facebook more often, while wealthier teens -- while still using Facebook -- are more likely than less wealthy teens to report that they use Snapchat or Twitter most often." The study also found that 73% of U.S. teens have access to a smartphone and 92% report going online daily, including 24% who say they go online "almost constantly." The complete report is available at the link below.

In March, IT jobs grew 0.3% to 4.9 million, while engineering job growth slowed to 0.1%, finishing the month at 2.5 million. "Despite an anemic overall jobs report in March, IT employment continued to show resilience," said Mark Roberts, CEO of the TechServe Alliance. "While the data from a single month does not reflect a trend, engineering job growth struggled in March -- falling behind the growth rate of the overall workforce."
