o San Francisco-Based ZenPayroll Raises $60 Million in New Funding
San Francisco -- ZenPayroll, a San Francisco-based developer of online payroll software for small businesses, said on Monday it has raised $60 million in a new round of funding, led by Google Capital. Emergence Capital Partners, Ribbit Capital and previous backers General Catalyst, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Google Ventures also took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $86.1 million since its inception in 2012. ZenPayroll said its platform, which automates the complexity of payroll taxes and compliance, currently processes billions of dollars in annual payroll for more than 10,000 small businesses, including clients in 47 states and DC. The company, which has 84 employees, said it plans to continue expanding its payroll.

o S.F. -Based CoreOS Lands $12 Million in New Funding Round
San Francisco -- CoreOS, a San Francisco-based developer of open-source enterprise software for Linux containers, said on Monday it has raised $12 million in a new round of funding, led by Google Ventures. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), Fuel Capital and Accel Partners also participated, bringing the company's total funding to $20 million. the proceeds will be used to support the launch of Tectonic, an enterprise software stack for businesses seeking the benefits of a container-based infrastructure. The software is currently in beta testing. Alex Polvi, the CEO of CoreOS, said the software "allows enterprises across the world to securely run containers in a distributed environment, similar to how Google runs their infrastructure internally."

San Francisco -- ServiceSource, a San Francisco-based provider of cloud-based technologies and services designed to help clients better manage recurring revenue, on Monday named Robert Pinkerton as its new CFO. He will succeed Simon Biddiscombe, who held the role on an interim basis and will remain with the company as chief strategy officer through June 30. Pinkerton most recently served as the senior vice president of corporate development for TeleTech Holdings, and earlier was the CFO and interim CEO of T3Media.

o San Francisco-Based Akanda Lands New Round of Seed Funding
San Francisco -- Akanda, the San Francisco-based developer of an open source network virtualization tool for OpenStack users, said on Monday it has secured an unspecified amount of seed funding in a round led by New Dream Network. The Fabric, Double M Partners, Rincon Venture Partners, DreamHost CEO Simon Anderson and Matt Ocko also participated. Akanda said it will use the proceeds to build out its technical team, accelerate platform development and support production implementations by cloud service providers and enterprises. "In the past five months, Akanda has experienced a significant increase in interest and demand," said CEO Henrik Rosendahl.

Washington, DC -- Worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $27.8 billion in February, up 6.7% from Feb. 2014, according to new figures from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Sales in the Americas increased 17.1% to lead all regional markets. "The global semiconductor industry maintained momentum in February, posting its 22nd straight month of year-to-year growth despite macroeconomic headwinds,” said John Neuffer, president and CEO of the SIA.
