o Mountain View-Based Livongo Health Raises $20 Million in Second Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- Livongo Health, a Mountain View-based digital health startup focused on helping people manage diabetes, said on Tuesday it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding. Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), DFJ and previous investor General Catalyst took part in the round, which the company will use to further develop its chronic disease management ecosystem and accelerate the adoption of its digital diabetes management program, called Livongo for Diabetes. The program, currently used by self-insured employees of companies such as Office Depot and Iron Mountain, is designed to help people with diabetes better manage important aspects of their illness on their own. Each user receives a blood glucose smartmeter, a mobile, two-way interactive blood glucose meter, which captures a person's biometric data and converts it into useable information and support. The data also can be shared with anyone in the user's family or care team. "This information improves care, reduces costs, and enables people to focus on their lives and not their diseases," said CEO Glen Tullman. Beth Seidenberg, a general partner at KPCB, and Emily Melton, a partner at DFJ, will join the company's board of directors.
