Palo Alto, Calif. -- E-commerce giant Amazon has acquired Palo Alto-based ClusterK, a developer of software designed to help users save money running applications on Amazon Web Services (AWS), VentureBeat reported. The purchase price reportedly was $20-$50 million. ClusterK, which in February announced $1.2 million in seed funding, will relocate to Amazon's headquarters in Seattle.

o Report: San Francisco-Based Circa Seeking Buyer

San Francisco -- Unable to complete its latest round of funding, San Francisco-based Circa, developer of a mobile news app, is now seeking a buyer, Fortune reported. Matt Galligan, the company's CEO, told the publication that he has had discussions with several possible buyers. "Our intent is to find the right partner to keep growing this idea," said Galligan. Circa has raised more than $5 million in angel and seed funding since 2012, and reportedly was seeking another $8 million in its first round, which never materialized.

o Cupertino-Based Seagate Technology to Combine Business Groups

Cupertino, Calif. -- Seagate Technology, the Cupertino-based storage technology giant, said on Friday it will combine its Cloud Systems and Solutions group and Electronic Solutions group. Chairman and CEO Steve Luczo said the move will allow the company to "better align our full breadth of hardware expertise and enterprise storage capabilities." Phil Brace, an executive vice president currently leading the Electronic Solutions group, now will lead the combined organization as interim president. Jamie Lerner, who has served as president of the Cloud Systems and Solutions group, plans to step down.

o Doblet Launches San Francisco Phone-Charging Network

San Francisco -- Doblet, a San Francisco-based phone-charging startup, said it has launched a network of batteries for charging phones across San Francisco. Customers can use the company's mobile app to find the nearest Doblet-carrying locations, which currently exist at more than 100 area cafes, bars and restaurants. The company plans to expand that number to more than 1,000 in the coming months, adding them at a rate of 30 a week. The first charge is free, with each additional charge $3 for a 24-hour period. Users also can choose to pay a $3 monthly subscription for unlimited charging. "Our vision is to have Doblets on nearly every city block, so consumers will always have an easy way to charge their phones while they're out and about," said co-founder and CEO Doktor Gurson. Founded in 2014, Doblet is backed by investors including Y Combinator, SoftTech VC, The Orange Fund and GMO VenturePartners.
