San Mateo, Calif. -- Coupa Software, a San Mateo-based developer of cloud-based spend management tools, said on Monday it has raised $80 million in a new round of funding, co-led by T. Rowe Price Associates and Iconiq Capital. Premji Invest and previous backers Crosslink Capital, Battery Ventures, El Dorado Ventures and Rally Ventures also participated. Coupa, which now has raised $165 million since its inception, said it will use the latest proceeds to continue expanding its global operations; grow its sales, support and marketing activities; and bolster product development. Coupa boasts more than 500 customers, including Sanofi, Salesforce.com, BNP Paribas North America, NEC, Royal Bank of Canada, Swiss Re and Highmark Health.

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Cyphort, the Santa Clara-based developer of a security platform designed to detect and analyze malware, said on Monday it has landed $30 million in its third round of funding, led by Sapphire Ventures. Previous backers Trinity Ventures, Foundation Capital and Matrix Partners also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand into new markets. Cyphort now has raised more than $53 million since its inception. "This new round of funding… solidifies Cyphort's longevity and continued customer confidence," said CEO Manoj Leelanivas. The company's technology is designed to defend against advanced persistent threats, targeted attacks and zero day vulnerabilities.

o Santa Clara-Based Hedvig Raises $18 Million in Second Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Hedvig, a Santa Clara-based developer of software-defined storage technology, said on Monday it has raised $18 million in its second round of funding, led by Vertex Ventures. Previous backers True Partners and Atlantic Bridge also participated in the round, which increases the company's total funding to $30.5 million. In Sik Rheem, a general partner at Vertex Ventures, will join the company's board of directors. Hedvig's technology is designed to collapse disparate storage systems into a single platform, creating a virtualized pool. Customers include Intuit, Dovilo, Van Dijk and Paul Hastings. "We've identified the potential in a broken and fragmented storage market, and are not only looking to bring software-defined storage mainstream, but fundamentally change how companies store and manage data," said founder and CEO Avinash Lakshman. The company will use the latest round of funding to fuel global expansion and service its growing customer base.

o Santa Clara-Based Intel to Acquire San Jose's Altera for $16.7 Billion

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chip-making giant, said on Monday it will acquire San Jose-based partner Altera, a developer of programmable chips, in an all-cash deal valued at $16.7 billion. Intel will pay $54 a share under the deal, which is expected to close in 6-9 months. The acquisition will give Intel field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology that the company said will lead to new products in the data center and Internet of Things (IoT) markets. "We believe that as part of Intel we will be able to develop innovative FPGAs and system-on-chips for our customers in all market segments," said John Daane, the chairman, president and CEO of Altera. Altera will operate of Intel, which will continue support and development of the company's ARM-based and power management product lines.

o eBay Names Daniel Tarman as Chief Communications Officer

San Jose, Calif. -- Preparing to spin off its online payments arm, San Jose-based eBay on Monday hired Daniel Tarman as its chief communications officer. He officially will join the company following its separation from PayPal, expected to be completed in the third quarter. Tarman for the past eight years has served as executive vice president and global head of corporate communications at PIMCO, where he led brand and reputation management efforts. He will succeed Alan Marks, who has been with eBay since 2008 and will leave the company once the separation is complete.

Oakland -- Navis, an Oakland-based developer of terminal operating systems that manage the movement of cargo through terminals, said on Monday Bill Walsh has stepped down as its president and CEO to "pursue other interests." Rob Dillon, the company's CFO, will take over as interim CEO until a permanent replacement is hired.
