o Palo Alto-Based Medallia Lands $150 Million in New Funding Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Medallia, a Palo Alto-based developer of web-based tools designed to capture and act upon customer feedback, said on Tuesday it has landed $150 million in a new round of funding, led by Sequoia Capital. The company, which first raised venture funding in late 2011, now has raised a total of $255 million. It plans to use the latest proceeds to develop new products and expand its operating footprint in major markets, after already doubling its global team to more than 700 employees in the past 18 months. "Consumers are increasingly making purchase decisions based on customer experience data like online reviews and social media feedback rather than pre-existing brand recognition," said co-founder and CEO Borge Hald. "Our recent round of funding is an important step in our journey to build customer experience into the DNA of the world's companies and change the way they operate." Clients include SAP, Mazda, DIRECTV, Four Seasons and Zurich Insurance Group.

The company said it will use the proceeds to bolster its platform, expand its customer base globally and develop engineering and customer success teams.
