o Max Levchin Resigns as Chairman of San Francisco-Based Yelp

San Francisco -- Yelp, the San Francisco-based local business review site, said that Max Levchin has resigned as its chairman to pursue other interests, including his role as the CEO of Affirm, a financial technology company he co-founded. Levchin, a co-founder of PayPal who provided the seed capital to launch Yelp in 2004, had served as the company's chairman since its inception. No successor has been named, though the company said it will discuss the issue at its next board meeting in September. "I am extremely proud of what Yelp has accomplished over the last 11 years and believe I leave it well-positioned to take advantage of the large local advertising market," said Levchin. "I spoke with [CEO] Jeremy [Stoppelman] and felt now is the right time to transition off the board. I'm confident that Yelp is prepared to continue its success as I increase my focus on my CEO responsibilities at Affirm, along with other demands on my time."

o Report: Chinese Hackers Behind OPM Breach Also Hacked United Airlines

Washington, DC -- Chinese hackers suspected of stealing personal data from millions of federal employees and insurance holders earlier this year may also have been behind a newly revealed breach at United Airlines, Bloomberg reported, citing several people familiar with the situation. United, the world's second-largest airline, experienced a major data breach in late May or early June, when hackers stole information including the identities of passengers, as well ass their origins and destinations. The incident occurred around the same time as major data breaches at the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and health insurer Anthem. Security officials fear the information could be used to track the travels of specific government or military officials, potentially leading to blackmail. "You're suspicious of some guy; you happen to notice that he flew to Papua New Guinea on June 23 and now you can see that the Americans have flown there on June 22 or 23," James Lewis, a senior fellow in cybersecurity at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told Bloomberg. "If you're China, you're looking for those things that will give you a better picture of what the other side is up to."
