San Francisco -- Stripe, the San Francisco-based developer of a platform designed to let businesses more easily accept online and mobile payments, said it has received a major investment from Foster City-based credit card giant Visa as part of a larger partnership between the two companies. Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, both Re/code and The New York Times said the investment values the startup at $5 billion. "Our partnership with Visa will accelerate our ability to expand to markets around the world, and give developers even more control over the end-to-end experience," said Patrick Collison, the co-founder and CEO of Stripe. "We're very excited about the potential." The companies plan to jointly develop new e-commerce tools, such as "buy buttons." Stripe also will become one of the first beta partners to connect to Visa's network capabilities through APIs and SDKs, offering its developer community access to payment and risk management services, Visa's tokenization service and security technologies. Stripe in early 2014 raised $80 million in its third round of funding, which valued the startup at $1.75 billion https://stripe.com/ http://pressreleases.visa.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=215693&p=irol-newsarticlePR&ID=2071769 _____________________________________________ o Mark Templeton to Retire as CEO of Santa Clara-Based Citrix
