San Francisco -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based design and engineering software company, has signed an agreement to acquire SeeControl, a San Francisco-based developer of an enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) cloud service platform. The SeeControl service is used by manufacturers and systems integrators to connect and manage remote products and assets. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Autodesk said it intends to continue to sell and support the SeeControl platform and to incorporate the technology into design services for the manufacturing and building industries.

o San Francisco-Based Crunchyroll Raises $22 Million of Venture Capital

San Francisco -- Crunchyroll, the San Francisco-based provider of Japanese and Asian entertainment content, has raised $22 million of venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Founded in 2007, Crunchyroll, which also has a presence in Tokyo, delivers more than 25,000 episodes and 15,000 hours of officially licensed content from Asian media producers directly to viewers, translated in multiple languages, within minutes of TV broadcast. The Chernin Group, a Los Angeles-based firm that manages and invests in businesses in the media, entertainment and technology sectors, acquired a majority stake in Crunchyroll in 2013.

o San Francisco-Based Life360 Acquires Chronos Mobile Technologies

San Francisco -- Life360, the provider of a mobile network that focuses on families, on Thursday announced it has acquired Chronos Mobile Technologies, the privately held developer of a contextual-awareness engine that combines location with other passively collected data for understanding people's day-to-day patterns and routines. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Together the two companies will provide Life360 families with increased context and actionable insights based on their daily activity," according to the announcement. Founded in 2008, Life360 has raised $76 million of venture capital and now has 75 employees.

o San Jose-Based GigOptix Raises $14.7 Million for Acquisitions

San Jose, Calif. -- GigOptix, a San Jose-based supplier of semiconductor communications components for use in cloud connectivity, data centers, and high-speed optical and wireless networks, announced it has raised $14.7 million through a public offering to fund growth through strategic acquisitions. The company sold around 9.2 million shares priced at $1.70 each in the deal. GigOptix said it expects to use the proceeds from the offering for the acquisition of technologies and scalable businesses, with a focus on "multiple attractive global targets, including entities that the company has been tracking for the last couple of years."

o San Ramon-based Medical Device Maker BioVentrix Raises $8.4 Million

San Ramon, Calif. -- BioVentrix, a San Ramon-based medical device developer, has raised $8.4 million of venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company is engaged in the improvement of treatments available for congestive heart failure. Its "myocardial anchoring system" requires regulatory approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and is not yet commercially available in the U.S.

The acquisition will add low-temperature wafer bonding technology for semiconductor industry customers. Ziptronix was founded in 2000 as a venture-backed spinoff of RTI International.
