Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Yahoo said it will acquire Mountain View-based Polyvore, developer of a digital fashion community and social shopping site. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sunnyvale-based Yahoo said the acquisition will bolster its digital content growth strategy across the areas of social, mobile and native. "The combination of Yahoo's exclusive, premium content with Polyvore's expertise on community-driven experiences and retailer-supported commerce has amazing potential," wrote Simon Khalaf, Yahoo's senior vice president of product and engineering, publisher products, in a blog post. "And, when it comes to advertising, Polyvore's technology will bring a proven native ad model, new compelling native ad formats, and strong advertising relationships with more than 350 retailers to Yahoo’s fast-growing native advertising platform, Yahoo Gemini." Polyvore's employees, including CEO Jess Lee, will work from Yahoo's office in Sunnyvale, San Francisco and New York.

o Sunnyvale-Based Blue Coat Systems Acquires Perspecsys

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- In its fifth acquisition since Dec. 2012, Sunnyvale-based Blue Coat Systems, a developer of enterprise security technology, said it has acquired Virginia-based Perspecsys, a developer of enterprise cloud data protection tools. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Backers of Perspecsys included Intel Capital, Paladin Capital and Ascent Venture Partners. Blue Coat said the acquisition significantly expands its cloud security offerings, while bolstering its standing in the Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) segment. "CASBs have become the primary means of layering security onto Software as a Service applications," said Mike Fey, Blue Coat's president and COO. "As SaaS deployments continue to increase, this technology will become an essential component of enterprise data and cloud security."

o San Francisco-Based WizRocket Raises $8 Million from Sequoia Capital

San Francisco -- WizRocket, the San Francisco-based developer of an omnichannel marketing engagement platform designed to reach users through mobile, web and email, said on Monday it has landed a new $8 million investment from Sequoia Capital. That follows a recent $1.6 million seed investment from Accel Partners. The company said it will use the proceeds to grow its core platform, which helps brands develop a relevant and targeted dialogue with their customers. "By providing valuable customer insights and analytics in real time, WizRocket offers marketers and developers an enhanced toolkit for understanding their users," said CMO Malcolm Friedberg.

o Ciena Completes $400 Million Acquisition of Petaluma-Based Cyan

Petaluma, Calif. -- Three months after initially announcing the deal, Maryland-based networking technology company Ciena said on Monday it has completed its $400 million acquisition of Pelaluma-based Cyan, a developer of software for network operators, in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $400 million. Cyan's open software-defined networking tools are designed to help network operators make service delivery more efficient and profitable. Ciena said the technology will compliment its own Agility software portfolio. "We believe this acquisition advances our strategy to deliver a complete on-demand solution for virtualized networks and services," said Gary Smith, the president and CEO of Ciena. With the closing of the deal, Ciena said it has launched a new Blue Planet division, which will unify the software activities of both companies under a single brand. Mike Hatfield, formerly Cyan's president, will lead the division as senior vice president.

o Milpitas-Based JDSU Completes Split; Lumentum and Viavi Debut

Milpitas, Calif. -- Following months of planning, Milpitas-based JDSU, the developer of optical networking technology, said it officially has split into two companies. The company has spun off its communications and commercial optical products business into a new company called Lumentum Operations, with its remaining network enablement, service enablement and optical security and performance products businesses renamed Viavi Solutions. Both companies on Monday began trading on the NASDAQ Stock Market, under the symbols, of "LITE" and "VIAV," respectively. The "JDSU" ticker symbol has been retired. "This is an important milestone as we mark the successful completion of the spinoff," said Tom Waechter, Viavi’s president and CEO. "We believe that the spinoff will improve Viavi’s agility and increase focus."
