o Silicon Valley VC Index Dips to Two-Year Low

San Francisco -- The confidence of area VCs hit a two-year low last quarter, according to the latest Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Confidence Index. The index, produced by University of San Francisco professor Mark Cannice, registered a 3.73 out of 5, down from 3.81 the previous quarter, though matching its 11-year average. "While an expectation of a continued strong exit market -- both initial public offerings (IPO) and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) -- for venture-backed firms remained, along with an abiding confidence in the Silicon Valley ecosystem for new venture creation, increasing concern about high valuations of venture-baked firms restrained sentiment," said Cannice. "While the powerful ecosystem in Silicon Valley for venture creation, innovation, and long-term value creation continues to grow stronger, short to medium-term prospects for positive investment results appear somewhat less certain."

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Miconex had revenue of approximately $40.5 million for the year ending June 30, with net income of $3 million. "The acquisition of Miconex is yet another step in our strategy to extend our capabilities in specialty manufacturing processes and expand our addressable market in semiconductor equipment and adjacent segments," said CEO Jim Scholhamer. "With Miconex, our offerings will now include a new and advanced set of competencies in the manufacture of highly complex fluid systems used for wet processing steps like cleaning, chemical mechanical polishing and electrochemical deposition."
