o Palo Alto-Based SurveyMonkey Acquires Emeryville's TechValidate

Palo Alto, Calif. -- SurveyMonkey, the Palo Alto-based developer of an online survey platform, said it has acquired Emeryville-based TechValidate, creator of a web-based software platform specializing in marketing content automation. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SurveyMonkey said it plans to maintain TechValidate's current headquarters in Emeryville, along with the company's management team, 50 employees and current product offerings. Founded in 2007 by Steve Norall and Brad O'Neill, TechValidate is the developer of an automated platform that collects and transforms customer experience data into credible content for use across all key marketing and sales communication channels. More than 300 clients currently use the platform. The acquisition is SurveyMonkey's first since naming Bill Veghte as its new CEO last month, following the sudden death of former CEO Dave Goldberg earlier this year.

o Fishbowl Opens Silicon Valley R&D Facility in Santa Clara

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Fishbowl, the Virginia-based developer of a marketing analytics platform for the restaurant industry, said on Wednesday it has opened a new Silicon Valley research and development center in Santa Clara. The company said the new facility, under the direction of CTO Sanjog Gad -- a Silicon Valley veteran -- will focus on bolstering Fishbowl's predictive analytics platform, as well as further integrating analytics applications with its messaging, social and promotions management tools. To do that, the company plans to expand its team of experts in Big Data and machine learning technologies, and strengthen its relationships with Hadoop distribution partners. "The restaurant industry is moving rapidly to adopt analytics to better understand their guests, drive incremental sales and measure the impact of their marketing spend on profitability," said Gad. "By opening a second office in Silicon Valley, we will accelerate the innovation we deliver to clients." The news comes on the heels of Fishbowl's recent purchase of predictive analytics firm Czar Metrics.
