o San Francisco-Based Fundbox Raises $50 Million in Third Round

San Francisco -- Fundbox, the San Francisco-based developer of a service designed to help small businesses eliminate cash flow gaps by instantly clearing invoices, said it has raised $50 million in its third round of funding, led by new investor Spark Capital Growth. Bezos Expeditions, Ashton Kutcher and Guy Oseary's Sound Ventures, Entrée Capital and previous backers Khosla Ventures, General Catalyst Partners, Shlomo Kramer and Blumberg Capital also participated in the round, which comes just six months after the company landed $40 million in its second round. Fundbox's platform is designed to let businesses click on any of their outstanding invoices to get that amount instantly transferred to their bank account. Pricing is determined by the business's health and the specific invoice. The company said that it recently has underwritten its 15 millionth invoice.

o San Mateo-Based SteelBrick Acquires U.K.'s Invoice IT

San Mateo, Calif. -- SteelBrick, a San Mateo-based developer of cloud apps used to create accurate sales quotes quickly and submit orders on the fly, said it has acquired U.K.-based Invoice IT, a developer of cloud software for subscription billing, revenue scheduling and payment collection. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. SteelBrick said the acquisition expands its global footprint, while adding more than 60 new clients. "It's an ideal match for SteelBrick's 250 customers, enabling us to provide a true next generation quote-to-cash solution to customers worldwide," said CEO Godard Abel. SteelBrick has raised $30 million from investors including Salesforce Ventures, Shasta Ventures and Emergence Capital.

o Santa Clara-Based Agilent Technologies to Acquire Seahorse Bioscience

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Agilent Technologies, the Santa Clara-based provider of instruments, software and services to labs, said it will pay $235 million in cash to acquire Massachusetts-based Seahorse Biosciences, a maker of analyzers and stress test kits for cell metabolism measurements. The deal is expected to close by Nov. 1. Seahorse was founded in 2001, and expected to generate $49 million in revenue this year. "Seahorse Bioscience's unique technology is the perfect complement to Agilent's market-leading separations and mass spectrometry solutions, in particular for metabolomics research and disease research in pharma," said Patrick Kaltenbach, the president of Agilent's Life Sciences and Applied Markets Group. "The combination of these two platforms gives scientists a more comprehensive and faster path to researching the most challenging diseases."

o Technology Lender Bridge Bank Launches New Practice in Menlo Park

San Jose, Calif. -- Bridge Bank, the San Jose-based technology lender, said it has launched a new banking group -- Equity Fund Resources -- that will serve as a centralized resource to venture capital and private equity investment funds, their partners and portfolio companies. The new group will offer services to equity funds including capital call lines of credit, treasury management tools and management company flexibility lines. Michael David, who joined Bridge Bank in August, has been named to lead Equity Fund Resources from a new office in Menlo Park. Thomas Sa, the executive vice president and head of Bridge Bank's business lines, called the new group "a natural and complementary extension of Bridge Bank's technology banking practice."

(San Francisco) The Virginia-based Center for Innovative Technology (CIT) said that its 2015 Emerge Accelerator program will culminate with a Demo Day in San Francisco on Sept. 23. The program is a public-private partnership launched earlier this year to help speed the delivery of the latest wearable technologies to first responders. Participating companies include several startups from the TechWildcatters Accelerator, along with a number of more mature early stage companies from the TechNexus Venture Collaborative.
