o Santa Clara-Based Crossboar Lands $35 Million in Fourth Round

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Crossbar, a developer of storage technology, said on Monday it has landed $35 million in its fourth round of funding, led by Tyche Partners. Other new investors Oriza Holdings and Cheerful Link Ventures joined previous backers Artiman Ventures, CBC-Capital, Correlation Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Korea Investment Partners, Northern Light Venture Capital, SAIF Partners, Tao Invest and the University of Michigan. The company, which now has raised $85 million since its inception, plans to use the latest proceeds to continue the commercial ramp of its non-volatile (NVM) memory technology, known as Resistive RAM (RRAM). "The future of electronics innovation rests largely on new developments in memory technology," said co-founder and CEO George Minassian. "This latest round of funding will enable us to take the next crucial steps in bringing our technology to market." Weijie Yun, Tyche Partners' founder and managing partner, will join Crossbar's board of directors.

o Report: Nearly Half of Federal Agencies Were Targets of Insider Threats

Alexandria, Va. -- While the vast majority of federal agencies are more focused on combating insider threats today than they were a year ago, nearly half were a target of an insider threat and nearly a third lost data to an insider incident in the past 12 months, according to a new survey by MeriTalk. The report, underwritten by Symantec, surveyed 150 federal IT managers familiar with their organization's cyber security efforts. To help minimize this risk, 51% of federal IT managers run mock attacks or other test scenarios, and 73% offer annual online training. However, just 39% offer in-person training and only 29% update their security protocol manuals for employee review. "This isn't just about Snowden," said Steve O'Keeffe, MeriTalk's founder. "If you Google how to make a nuclear bomb -- and don't do it from your PC -- you’ll see the dangers of exfiltration. Training can help -- but we need security systems that are smarter by design."
