o Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Gives Birth to Identical Twin Girls

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- As she works on a plan to secure the future of Sunnyvale-based Yahoo, CEO Marissa Mayer on Thursday saw her own future grow a bit brighter. Mayer early Thursday gave birth to identical twin girls. Their names have not yet been disclosed. Mayer, through her Tumblr account, posted: "Zack and I are excited to announce that our identical twin girls have arrived! They were born early this morning. Our whole family is doing great! Thanks to everyone for all of the support and well wishes throughout my pregnancy." The news comes a day after Yahoo shelved plans to spin off its remaining $31 billion stake in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, citing concerns from investors that it may have to pay taxes on the deal. The company now is working on other alternatives for the assets.

o Redwood City-Based Equinix Completes $280M Acquisition of Bit-isle

Redwood City, Calif. -- Equinix, a Redwood City-based owner and operator of data centers, said it has completed its $280 million acquisition of Japanese counterpart Bit-isle, acquiring the remaining shares that it didn't already own. The deal, first announced in early September, further strengthens Equinix's position in the Asia-Pacific -- its fastest growing region. Equinix gains fives data centers in Tokyo and one in Osaka. "This acquisition allows us to create campus-like environments between these facilities to more effectively meet the needs of our customers, which include some of Japan's largest companies, while also adding strong local expertise to drive Equinix's success in this very important market," said CEO Steve Smith. Equinix now owns 111 data centers in 33 markets.

o Survey: 40% of Companies Willing to Offer Extra Perks to Employees

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Forty percent of businesses are willing to offer extra incentives to their employees, according to a new survey by Menlo Park-based staffing firm Robert Half. Chief Financial Officers interviewed said they are more open to negotiating non-monetary perks, such as additional vacation days and health and wellness benefits. Those in Chicago (51%), DC (48%) and Boston (47%) topped the list. "Nonmonetary perks can serve as a differentiator when trying to attract top talent in today's competitive hiring environment, especially for smaller companies," said Paul McDonald, senior executive director at Robert Half. "It's important for businesses to ask employees what perks they value most and clearly promote the firm's offerings. Many companies undersell these benefits."
