o Sunnyvale-Based Blue River Technology Lands $17 Million in Funding

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Blue River Technology, a Sunnyvale-based developer of computer vision, machine learning and robotics tools for agriculture, said on Wednesday it has raised $17 million in its second round of funding, led by Pontifax AgTech. New investors Syngenta Ventures and Monsanto Growth Ventures also joined previous backers Data Collective Venture Capital, Khosla Ventures and Eric Schmidt's Innovation Endeavors in the round, which the company will use to expand its engineering team and accelerate the development of its agricultural robots. Blue River's first commercial application addresses thinning and weeding for specialty vegetable production, with robots currently providing plant-by-plant care on 10% of U.S. lettuce fields. The company now is expanding to other crops, and plans to help farmers increase yields by replacing broadcast spray with targeted controls.
