o San Mateo-Based Full Circle Insights Raises $4.7M in Second Round

San Mateo, Calif. -- Full Circle Insights, a San Mateo-based developer of marketing performance management tools, said on Thursday it has raised $4.7 million in its second round of funding, led by Aligned Partners. Salesforce Ventures also took part in the round, which the company will use to expand its sales and marketing activities and develop new products and services. Full Circle's cloud-based tools, built on the Salesforce App Cloud, aim to provide deeper insights into marketing and sales performance, while eliminating data silos. The company, formerly known as Full Circle CRM, recently hired Ellen Luttrell as its chief marketing officer (CMO).

o San Francisco-Based Slack Launches $80 Million Fund for Developers

San Francisco -- Slack, the San Francisco-based developer of a messaging app for teams, said it has launched a new $80 million fund to back developers building apps that interact with its platform. Six of Slack's investors -- Accel, Andreessen-Horowitz, Index Ventures, KPCB, Spark and Social Capital -- also took part in the fund. "If you're a developer or small company deciding whether to make a bet on the Slack platform, the Slack Fund is a new source of support to help you get started building apps," the company said in a blog post. "The Slack Fund will fund both `Slack-first' apps as well as B2B and enterprise tools that make Slack integrations a core part of their offering."

o Cupertino-Based Apple Promotes Jeff Williams to COO

Cupertino, Calif. -- Apple on Thursday announced several key executive moves, naming Jeff Williams as its chief operating officer (COO) and Johny Srouji as its senior vice president of hardware technologies. In addition, Phil Schiller, the company's senior vice president of worldwide marketing, will expand his role to include leadership of the App Store across all Apple platforms. And the company also said that Tor Myhren will become its vice president of marketing communications during the first quarter. The biggest promotion, however, belonged to Williams, who joined the company in 1998 as head of worldwide procurement and in 2004 he was named vice president of operations. Since 2010, he has overseen Apple's entire supply chain, service and support, as well as social responsibility initiatives designed to protect workers. He played a key role in Apple's entry into the mobile phone market with the launch of iPhone, and continues to supervise development of the company's first wearable product, the Apple Watch. "Jeff is hands-down the best operations executive I've ever worked with," said CEO Tim Cook. Complete bios on each are available at the link below.

o Following Record Year, Global IPO Activity Declines in 2015

London -- After last year's record-breaking level of activity, the volume of global initial public offering (IPOs) in 2015 fell by 2% and total capital raised by 25%, according to a new report by tax and advisory giant EY. All told, 1,218 IPOs raised $195.5 billion this year. Despite falling short of 2014's figures, however, the numbers are in line with the 10-year global average. In the U.S., technology IPOs raised only $8.1 billion, compared with an estimated $20 billion through private offerings in the first six months of 2015 alone. "IPOs generally take at least two years to plan, but access to private capital is much quicker, enabling companies that need to scale rapidly the chance to lock-in the funding they need to generate competitive advantage sooner," said Maria Pinelli, EY's global vice chair of strategic growth markets. "With private investors prepared to invest greater amounts and at a later stage, we are seeing a structural shift in the market with multitrack fundraising strategies here to stay." As a result, Pinelli said the balance may shift in favor of a new kind of IPO, in which bigger, more stable businesses come to the public markets later in their life cycle to not only gain funding, but also heighten their brand profile and gain access to new markets. The complete report is at the link below.
