o San Jose-Based Diablo Technologies Raises $19 Million in Third Round

San Jose, Calif. -- Diablo Technologies, a San Jose-based developer of memory technology for enterprise computing, said on Tuesday it has raised $19 million in its third round of funding, led by new investor ICV. Battery Ventures, BDC Capital, Celtic House and Hasso Plattner Ventures also participated in the round, which the company will use to expand its sales, applications support and R&D activities. Diablo also has named Mark Stibitz, a board member who previously held executive roles with Anobit, Elliptic Technologies, PMC-Sierra, Agere Systems and Lucent/AT&T-Microelectronics, as its new chairman and CEO. He succeeds co-founder Riccardo Badalone, who has become chief product officer. "This investment will contribute significantly to our customer support, product portfolio and innovation engine, " said Stibitz. "We are focused on successfully delivering products that seamlessly deploy flash as enterprise-grade system memory and high-performance, low-latency storage."

o San Jose-Based SkyCross Names New CEO; Plans Asia Expansion

San Jose, Calif. -- SkyCross, a San Jose-based developer of radio frequency (RF) solutions, on Tuesday named Youngmin Jo as its new CEO. Jo was a co-founder of the company, previously serving as its COO and, most recently, CTO. He said one of his primary objectives will be to grow the company's business in Asia. "We want to expand our business by bringing our U.S.-patented design for improvements of phone performance to an even larger base of users," said Jo. "Working with high growth global smartphone manufacturers based in Asia, we know we will do this." SkyCross already maintains manufacturing facilities in South Korea and China.

o White House Joins Social Media Service Snapchat

Washington, DC -- Looking to stay relevant with younger people on social media, the White House on Monday officially joined video messaging service Snapchat. "There are over 100 million daily active Snapchat users, and over 60% of American smartphone users between the ages of 13 and 34 use the platform," wrote Joshua Miller, the White House's director of product development, in a blog post. "In light of the number of Americans who use the service to consume news and share with their friends, the White House is joining Snapchat to engage this broad cross-section of the population in new and creative ways." The White House's Official Story on Tuesday features behind-the-scenes footage and photos focused on State of the Union preparations. Users of the app can follow the account by adding "WhiteHouse" as a friend or scanning the snapcode at the link below. The latest move comes after the White House previously launched its @POTUS account on Twitter and President Obama's page on Facebook.

o San Francisco-Based iWin Acquires Cubis from FreshGames

San Francisco -- iWin, a San Francisco-based distributor and publisher of family-friendly games, said on Tuesday it has acquired the rights to casual game franchise Cubis from FreshGames. First introduced in 2002, Cubis has since producing more than $50 million in gross sales and has been played by over 20 million people. This is iWin's fifth acquisition in the past two years, but first involving game IP. "This is a pivotal acquisition for iWin, and I am extremely excited to add Cubis to iWin's game portfolio that includes other hit titles like Jewel Quest and Bubble Town," said CEO CJ Wolf. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

o Consumer Technology Association Announces Multiple Records for CES 2016

Las Vegas -- The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) said its CES 2016 show ended its four-day run in Las Vegas Saturday after breaking event records with more than 3,800 exhibitors, 170,000 attendees and 6,000 media members. The show consumed 2.47 square feed of net exhibition space around the city. The organization also announced that CES 2017 will run Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas.
