o Mountain View-Based Shape Security Raises $25 Million in Fourth Round

Mountain View, Calif. -- Shape Security, the Mountain View-based developer of a service designed to stop automated web and mobile app attacks, said on Wednesday it has raised $25 million in its fourth round of funding. led by Baseline Ventures. Northern Light and Epic Ventures also joined previous backers Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Venrock, Norwest Venture Partners, Google Ventures and Eric Schmidt's Tomorrow Ventures. The company said that Beijing­based Northern Light's participation will help with its expansion into China. "Our new funding will allow us to take our proven approach and scale it to other major markets around the world," said CEO Derek Smith. Shape's technology protects are designed to protect clients' web and mobile apps from attacks, like account takeover, that are enabled by botnets and other forms of automation. The company now has raised $91 million since its inception.

o San Jose-Based GlobalLogic Acquires Poland's REC Global

San Jose, Calif. -- GlobalLogic, a San Jose-based provider of software R&D services, said on Wednesday it has acquired Poland-based REC Global, a software engineering firm focused on embedded systems. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. GlobalLogic said the acquisition expands its presence in Europe while enabling it to deliver more sophisticated design and engineering services to customers. "REC's credibility and specialization will enable us to further differentiate our offerings and focus on emerging customer needs in the new software economy," said CEO Shashank Samant. REC specializes in designing software for customers across a range of industries, including automotive, telecommunications and industrial automation.

New York -- A pair of Menlo Park-based venture capital firms, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz, have backed the most private tech companies that potentially are in line for an initial public offering (IPO) in 2016, according to as new report from CB Insights. Each has backed 52 startups with valuations believed to be greater than $100 million that could be in the IPO mix this year, given sustained momentum and the right conditions. Menlo Park-based Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, which took the top spot in CB Insights' 2015 Tech IPO Pipeline rankings, ranked third, while Palo Alto-based Accel Partners and New Enterprise Associates (NEA) rounded out the top five.
