o S.F.-Based Kabam Sells Classic Mobile Games and Publishing Business

San Francisco -- Kabam, a San Francisco-based developer of massively multi-player mobile games, said on Friday it has sold its classic mobile games and publishing business to China's GAEA Mobile. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Kabam said the sale reflects its exclusive focus on developing mobile games. Games included in the deal include Kingdoms of Camelot: Battle for the North, The Hobbit: Kingdoms of Middle-earth, Dragons of Atlantis: Heirs of the Dragon, as well as a number of games in Kabam's third-party publishing business. "Millions of people still play our legacy mobile games and games by third-party partners," said COO Kent Wakeford. "We wanted to find the right home for this treasure trove of entertainment. GAEA proves to be that trusted company."

o Report: Global Semiconductor Sales Dip in November

Washington, DC -- Global sales of semiconductors dipped slightly in November, according to new figures from the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Sales were $28.9 billion for the month, 0.3% lower than the previous month and 3% lower than the same period in 2014. "Softening demand and lingering macroeconomic challenges continued to limit global semiconductor sales in November," said John Neuffer, president and CEO of the SIA. "Despite these headwinds, the industry may narrowly surpass total annual sales from 2014 and is projected to post modest sales increases in 2016 and beyond."

o Survey: Most Parents Taking "Hands-On" Approach to Monitor Teens Online

Washington, DC -- Most parents are now taking a hands-on approach to monitor their teens' digital behavior, according to a new survey by the Pew Research Center. According to the study, 61% of parents say they have checked which websites their teen visits, 60% have checked their teens' social media profiles and 56% have friended or followed their teen on Facebook, Twitter or some other social media platform. In addition, nearly half say they have looked through their kids' phone call records or text messages. And, in what appears to be a growing trend, 65% of parents say they have "digitally grounded" their teenagers by taking away their cellphone or internet privileges as punishment. "As with many other aspects of child rearing, today's parents take a wide range of approaches to managing and monitoring their teen's online behavior," said Aaron Smith, an associate director of research at Pew. "Nearly all parents talk with their teenage children about appropriate and inappropriate behavior online. But beyond those discussions, some parents allow their children to operate relatively independently and with minimal oversight, while others take a much more active role in keeping tabs on their child's day-to-day online life." The complete report is at the link below.
