o San Francisco-Based Kika Tech Raises $30.6 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Kika Tech, the San Francisco-based developer of an Android keyboard app, said on Friday it has raised $30.6 million in its second round of funding, co-led by Honge Capital, Bole Zongheng and Zhu Ye, the CEO of Zeus Interactive. The company said it will use the proceeds to consolidate its current market share in the U.S., Europe, Brazil and Mexico while also introducing the product to a wider overseas audience. Its app has had more than 130 million downloads in the Google Play Store, averaging 20 million active users daily. "We are in the era of mobile Internet, and smart devices have become the platforms of modern day communication," said CEO Bill Hu. "The keyboard is the natural entrance into those platforms."

o Apple Claims Order to Unlock iPhone Violates Constitutional Rights

Cupertino, Calif. -- Apple said its Constitutional rights have been violated by a court order compelling the Cupertino-based company to help the FBI unlock an iPhone belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorist shooters. In a filing Thursday, Apple claimed the order violates its First and Fifth Amendments, arguing that "nothing in federal law allows the courts, at the request of prosecutors, to coercively deputize Apple and other companies to serve as a permanent arm of the government's forensics lab." Apple called the FBI's demand that it rewrite its iPhone software to give federal authorities access to password-protected data "unprecedented." "No court has ever granted the government power to force companies like Apple to weaken its security systems to facilitate the government's access to private individuals' information," wrote the company. "The All Writs Act does not support such sweeping use of judicial power, and the First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution forbid it."
