o Sunnyvale-Based Enlighted Raises $25 Million in Fourth Round

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Enlighted, a Sunnyvale-based developer of Internet of Things (IoT) products for commercial buildings, said on Monday it has secured $25 million in its fourth round of funding, which the company will use to accelerate IoT app development and expand international distribution to France, Germany and the U.K. Participants included previous backers Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, RockPort Capital Partners and Draper Fisher Jurvetson, as well as new investor Tao Capital Partners. In addition, Enlighted also announced a new partnership with Square 1 Bank, which will provide the company with $20 million in additional liquidity to help finance growth plans. Enlighted's IoT system, which uses digital sensors and analytics to make buildings "smarter," is installed in more than 100 million square-feet nationwide at companies such as Google, AT&T and HP. "With this war-chest of funding… Enlighted is poised to grow exponentially and accelerate the adoption of decision-making data solutions for intelligent real estate," said CEO Joe Costello. "We can provide software solutions for energy savings, asset tracking, real time information about building utilization, and security for buildings and people, to name a few."

o Sunnyvale-Based Trimble Sells The Omega Group to TriTech Software

Sunnyvale, Calif. -- Trimble, a Sunnyvale-based developer of software aimed at making field and mobile workers more productive, said on Monday that it has sold the assets of The Omega Group to San Diego-based TriTech Software Systems, a provider of public safety software. Omega Group is a developer of operational performance support software that integrates mapping, analytics, intelligence and mobile technologies for public safety agencies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Trimble said the divestiture is part of an effort to "tighten" its corporate focus. "While public safety remains an attractive market, the capital required to achieve scale and growth in the market could be better employed by Trimble in other markets," said Steven Berglund, the company's president and CEO.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Computer giant Dell said Monday that it has obtained unconditional EU approval for its planned $67 billion acquisition of IT infrastructure services company EMC, clearing way for the single largest technology acquisition in history. The acquisition, first announced in October, received approval from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) last week.

o NASA Moves Forward with Plans to Build Quieter Supersonic Jet

Arlington, Va. -- Space agency NASA said on Monday it is one step closer to the return of supersonic passenger air travel after selecting a team led by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics to design the first in its planned series of "X-planes." The piloted test aircraft, part of NASA's New Aviation Horizons initiative, will fly at supersonic speeds, creating a soft thump rather than the sonic boom currently associated with supersonic flight. "Developing, building and flight testing a quiet supersonic X-plane is the next logical step in our path to enabling the industry's decision to open supersonic travel for the flying public," said Jaiwon Shin, associate administrator for NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission. Design-and-build will take several years with aircraft starting their flight campaign around 2020, depending on funding. Lockheed Martin will receive about $20 million over 17 months for preliminary design work. The team includes subcontractors GE Aviation and Tri Models.
