San Francisco -- Avametric, a San Francisco-based developer of fashion software designed to recreate the fitting room experience virtually, said on Thursday it has raised $10.5 million to help fund the development of its platform. The funds include a recent first round, led by Khosla Ventures, and a previous seed round, also led by Khosla with participation from Y-Combinator. Keith Rabois, a partner at Khosla, and Ivy Ross, vice president and head of Google's Project Aura, have joined the company's board of directors. Avametric's platform provides users with accurate 3D images showing how any item of clothing will fit on their own body. The technology has been in development for four years after founder and CTO David Jackson recognized how the same algorithms that allow a robotic car to understand its 3D environment can be used to understand the shape of a human being. "Until now, brands have been lacking the tools to rival the physical retail experience," said CEO Ari Bloom. "With Avametric, brands can recreate the real world fitting room experience online, and offer new services to customers such as fully customized virtual look books." http://www.avametric.com http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20160310005427/en/Avametric-Fashion-Software-Startup-Announces-10.5-Million _____________________________________________ o San Francisco-Based Penrose Studios Lands $8.5 Million in Seed Funding

"This is a pivotal moment for us," said founder and CEO Eugene Chung. "We've come a long way from the early stages of this new medium. Today's announcement marks a milestone for the industry as well as our studio." Penrose is focused on creating fully immersive computer-generated worlds that viewers experience through stories.
