o San Ramon-Based HealthTell Lands $26 Million in Second Round

San Ramon, Calif. -- HealthTell, a San Ramon-based medical technology startup developing a diagnostic platform capable of assessing an individual's immune system response to specific diseases. said on Monday it has raised $26 million in its second round of funding. Third Point Ventures led the round, which increased the company's total backing to $40 million. HealthTell said it will use the funds to begin commercializing panels of tests for autoimmune diseases, such as lupus, which often mimic many other conditions, can take years to diagnose and are difficult to treat. Ultimately, the company hopes its platform, which originated at the Arizona State University Biodesign Institute, can impact the drug development process. "Our pharmaceutical customers continue to reinforce the need for new tools to stratify patients for drug development trials and to select patients most likely to respond to specific treatments," said CEO Bill Colston.

San Francisco -- Forge, a San Francisco-based developer of capturing and sharing technology for gameplay, said on Monday it has secured $4.5 million in a new round of seed funding, co-led by True Ventures and Resolute Ventures. WME Ventures also participated. Forge, which is in public beta, offers a free Windows PC app that lets gamers connect and share short-form gaming clips. o Report: PC Sales Expected to Continue Four-Year Drop-Off

Framingham, Mass. -- Pressed by competition from tablets and other handhelds, personal computers will continue to see declining sales at least through the end of this year, according to a new report from IDC. The firm said that PC volume has decreased steadily since early 2012, and could continue on that path for several years as a result of economic issues and competing products. "PCs remain an indispensable part of the tech landscape," said Loren Loverde, IDC's vice president of worldwide tracker forecasting and PC research. "However, replacements continue to be postponed, and future shipments increasingly depend on replacing older PCs. Detachable tablets and phablets will remain formidable competitors to traditional PCs throughout the forecast."
