o San Francisco-based Checkr Raises $40 Million in Second Round


San Francisco -- Two years after its founding, Checkr, a San Francisco-based provider of background check software, has raised $40 million in its second round of venture capital, which was led by the Y Combinator Continuity Fund, with participation form Institutional Venture Partners and Accel. Checkr's current clients, which include Uber, Instacart, GrubHub, and DoorDash, process over 300,000 background checks per month, according to the company. With the new financing, the company said it will expand its offering to service a wider variety of companies, including peer-to-peer commerce and marketplace businesses, as well as larger enterprises. Checkr's early customers in these spaces include Warby Parker, Zenefits, and Workable.

o San Francisco-Based VR Headset Developer FOVE Raises $11M in First Round

San Francisco -- With a stated goal of accelerating mass production of its eye-tracking virtual reality headset in the fall of 2016, San Francisco-based FOVE announced it has raised $11 million in its first round of venture capital. Originally developed at the University of Tokyo, FOVE's head-mounted display features eye-tracking technology, orientation sensing, and head position tracking, which combined enable users to experience high precision control and a more immersive and natural interaction with virtual characters." The company's new funding round was led by Colopl VR Fund, with the participation of Hon Hai venture capital fund, 2020, and Samsung Venture Investment.

o San Francisco-based Thoma Bravo to Sell InfoVista to Apax Partners

San Francisco -- Thoma Bravo, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, on Wednesday announced it has signed an agreement to sell InfoVista, a provider of service performance assurance solutions for IP-based network and application services, to Apax Partners. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Thoma Bravo acquired Paris-based InfoVista in 2012 through a "take-private" acquisition on the Euronext exchange, setting the stage for the company to accelerate its growth as a private company. During its partnership with Thoma Bravo, InfoVista more than doubled its size through organic growth and complementary acquisitions, according to the investment firm. The deal with Apax is subject to "consultation with the relevant employee representative bodies before entering into final negotiations."

o GI Partners, Allscripts to Acquire Netsmart Technologies

San Francisco -- GI Partners, a San Francisco-based middle market private equity firm, along with Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, announced on Wednesday a partnership to acquire Kansas-based Netsmart Technologies, Inc. Financial details of the deal were not released. Netsmart is a provider of software designed for the health and human services sector, including electronic health records, patient management, billing, scheduling and clinical care delivery. Under the deal, Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Inc. will merge its Allscripts' homecare software business unit with Netsmart.

o SolarCity Closes on $131 Million Equity Fund To Finance Solar Projects

San Mateo, Calif. -- SolarCity, the San Mateo-based residential and commercial solar company, closed a new equity fund to finance over $131 million in residential, commercial and military solar projects. The financing partner was not disclosed. The fund covers the capital cost of solar equipment and installation.
