o Cupertino-Based Bromium Raises $40 Million, Hires Key Executives

Cupertino, Calif. -- Bromium, developer of an endpoint security platform using micro-virtualization technology, said it has raised $40 million in a new round of funding, increasing its total backing to $115 million. New investor Silver Lake Waterman joined previous investors Andreessen Horowitz, Ignition Partners, Highland Capital Partners, Intel Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Meritech Capital Partners in the round. Bromium's also has announced several new executives, including Earl Charles as chief financial officer (CFO), David Weier as senior vice president of worldwide sales and Jan Kang as vice president and general counsel. Charles previously served as the CFO of AOptix Technologies, Weier was the senior vice president of global sales and business development at Norse and Kang was the vice president and general counsel of AOptix. The company's core technology -- micro-virtualization -- relies on endpoint CPU virtualization to isolate attack vectors, eliminate breaches and offer detailed forensic insights into each attack.

o Redwood City-Based JetBlue Technology Ventures Invests in FLYR

Redwood City, Calif. -- JetBlue Technology Ventures, the new Redwood City-based venture capital arm of JetBlue Airways, said it has madder its first-ever investment in San Francisco-based travel and data science company FLYR. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. FLYR's technology utilizes machine learning and predictive analytics to create price forecasts designed to help travel customers evaluate constantly changing airfares. FLYR, which also has received other recent funding, said it plans to expand beyond its current offering to create new airline and broader hospitality sector products. "Constantly changing airfares have always been a source of stress for travelers," said FLYR co-founder and CEO Jean Tripier. "Our predictive analytics can provide peace of mind for those travelers, but also has the potential to change the way travel providers capture and satisfy early demand, bringing higher engagement with travelers and increased revenue as well." The investment was revealed at the unveiling of JetBlue Technology Ventures' new home at startup incubator GSVlabs.

o Pandora Co-Founder Tim Westergren to Take Over as CEO

Oakland -- Tim Westergren, the co-founder of Oakland-based Internet radio service Pandora, will take over as CEO, the company announced Monday. Westergren, who had been serving as chief strategy officer, will succeed Brian McAndrews, who is leaving the company after serving as its chairman, president and CEO since 2013. As part of a retooled management structure, independent board member Jim Feuille also will take over as chairman, Mike Herring as president and chief financial officer (CFO), Sara Clemens as chief operating officer (COO) and Chris Phillips as chief product officer. "Tim is the ideal CEO for Pandora as we embark on our next phase of growth," said Feuille. "As the original founder, Tim carries the vision for how Pandora can transform the music industry and he is uniquely able to connect with listeners, music makers and employees." Westergren in 2000 teamed with Will Glaser and Jon Kraft to form Savage Beast Technologies, the predecessor to Pandora.

San Francisco -- Splunk, the San Francisco-based developer of a software platform for real-time operational intelligence, on Monday named Susan St. Ledger as its chief revenue officer (CRO). St. Ledger, who will start in mid-May, will be responsible for all of the company's revenue generating and customer facing teams. She most recently has served as CRO of the marketing cloud at Salesforce.com, and earlier was the vice president of global services sales at Sun Microsystems.

SBA to Launch Road Tour Aimed at Woman- and Minority-Owned Tech Firms

Washington, DC -- The Small Business Administration (SBA) on Monday announced plans for its second-annual Innovation Road Tour, a 20-state tour searching for woman- and minority-owned tech businesses in areas with underutilized funding opportunities. The tour, to kick off April 4 in New Orleans, will feature representatives from the SBA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, as well as from 11 other federal agencies. "American innovation is not restricted by geographic or cultural boundaries, and we are committed to supporting America's entrepreneurs wherever they are," said John Williams, the SBA's director of innovation and technology.
