o San Jose-Based Cisco Acquires San Francisco-Based Synata

San Jose, Calif. -- Cisco, the San Jose-based networking equipment giant, said on Tuesday it has acquired San Francisco-based Synata, a developer of technology that delivers search capabilities for collaboration cloud applications. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company said the acquisition will bolster search within Cisco's Spark business collaboration service, which lets customers message, meet or call anyone, anywhere and anytime. "With Synata's search capabilities, we can take Cisco Spark's existing search capabilities to the next level," wrote Rob Salvagno, vice president of corporate business development, in a blog post. "Once integrated, customers will be able to find the most relevant information quickly and securely." The Synata team will join Cisco's Collaboration Technology Group, under Rowan Trollope, its senior vice president and general manager. The latest move builds on Cisco's recent collaboration software acquisitions, such as Collaborate, Assemblage and Tropo.
