o S.F.-Based HomeLight Raises $11 million in First Round of Funding

San Francisco -- HomeLight, the San Francisco-based developer of an online marketplace designed to help users find real estate agents, said on Monday it has raised $11 million in its first round of funding, led by Zeev Ventures. Other participants included Dovi Frances of SGVC, as well as Bullpen Capital, Montage Ventures, Krillion Ventures, Innovation Endeavors, Oren Dobronsky and Yariv Davidovich. The company, which now has raised $15 million since its inception in 2012, said it will use the bulk of the proceeds to expand its marketplace. HomeLight utilizes data algorithms and machine learning techniques to match home sellers and buyers with the agent that best suits their needs, based on variables such as local neighborhood home sales, expertise in price range, time to sell, likelihood to close and responsiveness. The company currently operates in 38 major U.S. markets.

o San Rafael-Based Autodesk Acquires Solid Angle

San Rafael, Calif. -- Autodesk, the San Rafael-based developer of design and engineering software, said on Monday it has acquired U.K.-based Solid Angle, developer of a ray-tracing image renderer used to create 3D animation and visual effects in film, television and advertising. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "We're constantly looking out for promising technologies that help artists boost creativity and productivity," said Chris Bradshaw, the senior vice president of Autodesk Media & Entertainment. "Efficient rendering is increasingly critical for 3D content creation, and acquiring Solid Angle will allow us to help customers better tackle this computationally intensive part of the creative process." Solid Angle's core "Arnold" tool is used by more than 500 studios and thousands of independent artists.

o Vista Equity Partners to Acquire Cvent in $1.65 Billion Deal

San Francisco -- Vista Equity Partners, a private equity firm with offices in San Francisco, Chicago and Texas, said on Monday it will pay $1.65 billion to acquire Virginia-based Cvent, developer of a cloud-based event management platform. The deal, expected to close sometime after midyear, will take Cvent private, less than three years after the company raised $117.6 million in its initial public offering (IPO). Current stockholders will receive $36 a share in cash. "This milestone is the next chapter in our 17-year history," said founder and CEO Reggie Aggarwal, adding that Vista's financial strength will make his company "better positioned to deliver innovative solutions that transform the meetings and events industry," while giving employees "new opportunities for career growth." Cvent offers software to event planners for online event registration, venue selection, event management, mobile apps for events, email marketing and web surveys.

o FTC Settles Case Over $70 Million in Unauthorized Phone Charges

Washington, DC -- A purported nonprofit that allegedly benefitted from a massive landline phone bill cramming operation will turn over most of its assets in order to settle Federal Trade Commission (FTC) charges, the agency announced Monday. The settlement stemmed from the FTC's original complaint against a company called American eVoice, which the agency claimed crammed more than $70 million in unwanted and unauthorized charges on consumers' phone bills. The FTC said that company then transferred millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains to Montana-based Bibliologic, which now will have to surrender a large tract of land, the contents of multiple bank and investment accounts, gold and silver and several vehicles. Under the terms of the settlement, Bibliologic will be allowed to retain $100,000 that must be used for charitable purposes.
