o San Francisco-Based venBio Partners Raises $315 Million for New Fund

San Francisco -- venBio Partners, a San Francisco-based life sciences investment firm, said on Friday it has raised $315 million for its second life sciences venture capital fund. The fund, known as venBio Global Strategic Fund II, is anchored by major investments from biopharmaceutical giant Amgen, Merck and Baxalta. "Our investment model will remain the same," said Robert Adelman, managing partner at venBio. "We continue to seek to finance promising life sciences companies that focus on therapeutics which we believe will make a difference for unmet medical needs." The firm's two funds have invested in 14 companies to date, including: Cytos, Aragon, Solstice, Labrys, Seragon, Aurinia, Heart Metabolics, Metacrine, Alexo, Precision Biosciences, Checkmate, Adheren, Apellis and Nabriva.

o S.F.-Based Salesforce to Expand Indianapolis Regional HQ, Add 800 Jobs

San Francisco -- Salesforce, the San Francisco-based customer relationship management (CRM) software giant, said on Friday it will spend more than $40 million over the next 10 years to expand its regional headquarters in Indianapolis. The company will move to a new facility in the city -- to be known as Salesforce Tower Indianapolis -- in early 2017, and add 800 new jobs there over the next five years. The company also maintains regional headquarters in New York and London, in additional to its global headquarters in San Francisco. Salesforce has well over 1,000 employees in the Indianapolis area and more than 20,000 employees worldwide.

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), the Palo Alto-based technology venture capital firm, said on Thursday that Michelle Peluso has rejoined the firm as a venture partner in its New York office. Peluso, who was a venture partner at TCV in 2009, most recently served as the CEO of Gilt, which she sold to HBC in February. Prior to that, she was the global consumer chief marketing and Internet officer at Citigroup. Now as a member of TCV's Internet sector, Peluso will focus on consumer-facing companies.

o San Francisco-Based MIODx Lands $1.5 Million in Seed Funding

San Francisco -- MIODx, a San Francisco-based developer of an oncology testing platform designed to find particular cancer biomarkers, said on Friday it has raised $1.5 million in a new round of seed funding. Identities of the investors were not disclosed. "This tranche of funding will allow MIODx to complete the clinical utility study for our VerifyDx Prostate Cancer test and begin commercialization," said co-founder and COO Sean Givens. The company, which also said it has leased 3,000 square feet at the San Jose BioCube, launched with a test for prostate cancer, and plans to add additional tests for colon, lung and kidney cancers.

o Bisnow Acquired by Private Equity Firm Wicks Group

New York -- Bisnow, a producer of commercial real estate content and events that operates in San Francisco, Silicon Valley and 28 other markets, said it has been acquired by private equity firm Wicks Group. Though financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, Fortune reported the sale price at $50 million. "We were humbled by the amount of interest our business received, but in the end we identified one particular group as the perfect partner as we proceed to the next level," wrote Bisnow CEO Will Friend on the company's website. The New York-based company, co-founded by Mark Bisnow and his son Elliott in 2005. said it has "bold" plans for the future, including international expansion beginning this summer. Bisnow currently operates in 30 cities, has 650,000 subscribers and hosts 300 events a year. The digital media company has 80 employees. Mark Bisnow, who stepped down as CEO in 2013, and Ryan Begelman, Bisnow's vice chairman and former CEO, both will exit the company.
