o San Francisco-Based FTV Capital Invests $20 Million Riskalyze

San Francisco -- FTV Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, said on Monday it has invested $20 million in Sacramento-based Riskalyze, developer of a technology platform designed to help financial advisors measure a client's risk profile and build a portfolio that reflects that profile. Brad Bernstein, managing partner at FTV, will join the company's board of directors. This marks the first outside institutional round for the company, which will use the proceeds to bolster and expand its line of digital offerings. The company also expects to aggressively hire new employees, especially on its product and engineering teams. "Frequent episodes of market volatility since the financial crisis have reinforced the imperative for investment advisors to have a deep understanding of their clients' risk tolerance," said Bernstein. "The regulatory environment, and most recently the DOL fiduciary rule, is providing further tailwinds to the rapidly growing demand for Riskalyze's digital platform."

o BCAST to Launch New Feature Aimed at Replacing Twitter's Vine

Reston, Va. -- Responding to last week's announcement that San Francisco-based Twitter will be shutting down six-second video platform Vine, Virginia-based social media broadcasting network BCAST on Monday announced plans to launch a new eight-second video sharing feature called Blast. The feature, which will become part of the company's mobile app, will allow users to take eight-second "long-looping" videos and share them with all social media outlets. The company expects to launch the feature in the next 30-45 days. "We have always been intrigued with the popularity of Vine and we were puzzled when Twitter announced its decision to close it down," said CEO Mike Hodge. "As such we elected to step in with the addition of a functionality very similar, not as a stand alone app but as a feature within the BCAST mobile application and as a category on the web properties." Hodge said his company chose the longer eight-second format to accommodate its sports content providers.
