The round also included an investment fund associated with the owners and executives of the San Francisco 49ers, basketball star Jeremy Lin, Accel Partners, Tenaya Capital, DAG Ventures and Founders Fund. The company will use the investment to grow the platform and roll out new features, including improved tools to capture, edit and share video game clips and deep integrations with more PC game titles. San Francisco -- Brightwheel, a San Francisco-based developer of management and communication software for early education, said on Thursday it has raised $10 million in its first round of funding, led by GGV Capital. The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, ICONIQ and previous backers Eniac Ventures, Golden Venture Partners, Lowercase Capital, Mark Cuban Companies and RRE Ventures also participated, in addition to angel investors. Brightwheel has developed a cloud-based platform for preschools, childcare providers, camps and afterschool programs. The platform is designed to help teachers better manage their day and communicate with parents, while also giving parent a deeper insight into what their children are learning and automating the process of managing operations for administrators. Redwood City, Calif. -- Omidyar Network, the Redwood City-based philanthropic investment firm founded by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam, said it has invested $2.9 million in a new fund called the Latin American Alliance for Civic Technology (ALTEC). The $3.5 million fund, co-launched by FundaciĆ³n Avina and Avina Americas, aims to support the development and promotion of civic tech platforms designed to increase government transparency, fight corruption and improve the delivery of public services. "Civic technology provides a great opportunity to make governments more transparent and more responsive to the true needs of citizens, and for citizens to participate actively in the decisions that impact their everyday lives," said Felipe Estefan, an Omidyar investment principal responsible for governance and citizen engagement investments in Latin America. "ALTEC will be the leading power behind the development of Latin America's civic technology ecosystem." ALTEC is the latest iteration of the Accelerator Fund for Civic Innovation, which was created in 2013 by Avina and Omidyar Network.
