o San Francisco-Based Fortscale Security Raises $7 Million in New Funding

San Francisco -- Fortscale Security, a San Francisco-based developer of machine learning-based user and entity behavior analytics, said on Tuesday it has raised $7 million in a new round of funding, co-led by Evolution Equity Partners and Valor Capital Group. Previous backers Intel Capital, Blumberg Capital, Swarth, CME ventures and UST Global also took part in the round, which increased the company's total funding to $23 million. Fortscale said it will use the latest proceeds to expand into the European and Latin American markets, while also bolstering its research and development operations and team located in Israel. Fortscale's platform is designed to uncover insider threats and reduce data breaches by automatically finding compromised credentials of employees and rogue users, while identifying real-time risk levels.

o San Francisco-Based LocusLabs Lands $3.5 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- LocusLabs, the San Francisco-based developer of an indoor mapping and location platform for airports, said on Tuesday it has raised $3.5 million in its first round of funding from SITA and Acorn Pacific Ventures. With the proceeds, the company plans to take its technology into other large venues, as well as expand its team. Launched in 2015 by Campbell Kennedy, who previously led the startup that developed the original Google Street View technology, LocusLabs has developed a platform designed to help passengers use detailed 3D maps to better navigate more than 70 airports. The technology also is integrated into the mobile apps of American Airlines, United Airlines, Lufthansa, JetBlue, Delta and Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. LocusLabs uses depth cameras, lasers and other sensors to produce interior maps of buildings in a matter of days. "Airports are mini-cities where millions of people eat, shop and work, so there is a need to help passengers find what they are looking for," said Kennedy, the company's co-founder and CEO. "Traditional mapping platforms… do not address needs of everything going on inside venues and buildings. Indoor spaces are more about 'things' than places. LocusLabs brings indoor location down to the `things' level."

o Mountain View-Based Mozilla Acquires Pocket-Developer Read It Later

Mountain View, Calif. -- Mozilla, the Mountain View-based developer of open source web applications, said it has acquired San Francisco-based Read It Later, the developer of Pocket, a tool that lets users save content on apps like Flipboard and Twitter for viewing later. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Mozilla said the acquisition will grow its mobile presence and help accelerate its broader Context Graph initiative. The company plans to offer Pocket as a stand-alone product, alongside its core Firefox web browsers. "We believe that the discovery and accessibility of high quality web content is key to keeping the internet healthy by fighting against the rising tide of centralization and walled gardens," said CEO Chris Beard. The two companies had partnered over the past year, integrating Pocket into Firefox. Pocket will become a subsidiary of Mozilla, as well as part of the Mozilla open source project.

> Private VC Event with 3Q Digital at Google San Francisco

When can three hours make you millions of dollars? When 3Q Digital and Google host you as part of an exclusive focus group of VCs to explain two things: what makes a start-up viable; and what digital tools they can and should use to recognize their potential. On Feb. 28, from 4-7 pm at Google's San Francisco office, join 3Q Digital CEO David Rodnitzky and select Google experts to hear how 3Q has grown some of the Bay Area's biggest companies (Eventbrite, GoPro, SurveyMonkey, Square, and more) from seed money to household brand -- and what those companies had in common at the beginning. You'll also learn why we've turned down partnerships with so many start-ups seeking digital marketing over the years, and you'll get a first-hand look at Google's most current suite of digital growth tools. The event is intimate (and so exclusive we're holding it in a secret room). If you'd like to claim your spot, please claim your spot here,
