o Menlo Park-Based Workfit Raises $5.5 Million in Seed Funding

Menlo Park, Calif. -- Workfit, the Menlo Park-based developer of a voice assistant that utilizes artificial intelligence and speech recognition, said on Monday it has raised $5.5 million in seed funding. Battery Ventures, Greycroft Partners and Salesforce Ventures led the round, which the company will use to expand its staff and roll out its inaugural products this spring. Workfit's inaugural device is designed to address the problem of time-consuming yet unproductive meetings. The company's technology is designed to make meetings searchable, take note of decisions and encourage follow-up on action items. "We believe that meetings should be the most powerful collaborative solution. But for many companies, the amount of time wasted in meetings is akin to taking truckloads of cash and setting them on fire," said CEO Omar Tawakol, the former founder of BlueKai, acquired by Oracle in 2014. "In too many meetings, a lot is said, little is remembered and follow-up is inconsistent." Workfit also named co-founder Ahmad Abdulkader as its chief technology officer (CTO), co-founder David Wiener as its chief product officer and Mohamed El-Geish as its senior director of engineering. Bios on all three are available at the bottom link below.

o San Francisco-Based Dubset Media Lands $4 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- Dubset Media, the San Francisco-based developer of a technology platform used to identify musical recordings used in mixes and remixes, determine the appropriate rights holders and clear the mix or remix across all rights holders, said on Monday it has raised $4 million in its first round of funding. Cue Ball Capital led the round, which also included participation from MediaNet, Neoteny 3, Resolute Venture Partners and Redwood Venture Partners. Dubset enables record labels and music publishers to set permissions for access through a rules-based system. The technology allows DJ mixes to be available across music services for legal streaming.

o Menlo Park-Based LeoLabs Lands $4 Million in New Funding

Menlo Park, Calif. -- LeoLabs, a Menlo Park-based provider of data to track space debris and prevent collisions in low Earth orbit (LEO), said on Monday it has raised $4 million in a new round of funding from SRI International, Horizons Ventures and Airbus Ventures. The company said it will use the proceeds to bolster its cloud-based debris and satellite tracking service, expand its ground-based radar infrastructure and support engagements with commercial and governmental customers. "What we are witnessing is the birth of the LEO ecosystem and the rise of a LEO economy, ranging from real time imaging to communications to space tourism," said CEO Dan Ceperley. "LeoLabs was founded precisely to address the collision and navigation risks threatening the sheer number of satellites needed to support these services."

Donahoe previously served as the president and CEO of eBay from 2008-2015, and currently serves as the chairman of PayPal. o Blockchain Software Firm Bloq Acquires Palo Alto-Based Skry

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Bloq, a Chicago-based developer of blockchain software, said on Monday it has acquired Palo Alto-based Skry, maker of a blockchain analytics platform. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition, which includes all of Skry's intellectual property and employees, provides Bloq with a platform designed to let clients manage, visualize and analyze blockchain data from disparate sources. It allows users to detect anomalies -- such as a DDoS attack, spike in transaction fees or certain block dynamics -- both on public and private blockchains. "Blockchain networks need more than a rudimentary finder or explorer," said Jeff Garzik, the co-founder and CEO of Bloq. "We're ensuring that enterprises won't have to `fly blind' without a complete understanding of the performance, economics and irregularities of their underlying networks." The deal comes months after Bloq teamed with PwC Australia to launch Vulcan Digital Asset Services, a platform designed to let digital assets be used for banking, commerce and asset related services.

> Private VC Event with 3Q Digital at Google San Francisco

When can three hours make you millions of dollars? When 3Q Digital and Google host you as part of an exclusive focus group of VCs to explain two things: what makes a start-up viable; and what digital tools they can and should use to recognize their potential. On Feb. 28, from 4-7 pm at Google's San Francisco office, join 3Q Digital CEO David Rodnitzky and select Google experts to hear how 3Q has grown some of the Bay Area's biggest companies (Eventbrite, GoPro, SurveyMonkey, Square, and more) from seed money to household brand -- and what those companies had in common at the beginning. You'll also learn why we've turned down partnerships with so many start-ups seeking digital marketing over the years, and you'll get a first-hand look at Google's most current suite of digital growth tools. The event is intimate (and so exclusive we're holding it in a secret room). If you'd like to claim your spot, please claim your spot here,
