o Mountain View-Based Peloton Technology Raises $60 Million in Funding

Mountain View, Calif. -- Peloton Technology, a Mountain View-based developer of connectivity, automation and data analytics tools designed to improve the safety and efficiency of freight transportation, said on Wednesday bit has raised $60 million in its second round of funding, led by Omnitracs. Previous backers Intel Capital, DENSO International America, BP Ventures, Lockheed Martin, Nokia Growth Partners, UPS Strategic Enterprise Fund, Volvo Group, Sand Hill Angels, Band of Angels and Birchmere Ventures also participated, along with new investors B37 Ventures, Mitsui USA, Okaya, Schlumberger, US Venture and Breakthrough Fuel. The company, which now has raised $78 million since its inception, said it will use a portion of the proceeds to roll out its commercial two-truck driver-assistive platooning system later in 2017. The technology links the active safety systems of pairs of trucks and connects them to a cloud-based network operations center in a bid to improve their safety, fuel savings and operational efficiency.

o Palo Alto-Based Accel Co-Leads $180 Million Round for Qualtrics

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Accel, the Palo Alto-based technology venture capital firm, said on Wednesday it has co-led a new $180 million round of funding for Utah-based Qualtrics, a developer of experience management software. The round, co-led by Insight Venture Partners, values the company at $2.5 billion. Accel said the deal marks the single largest aggregate investment in its history. "From a revenue standpoint, Qualtrics is already the size of most public companies and there's room for a lot more growth considering the large and expanding market in which they play," said Ryan Sweeney, a partner at Accel and Qualtrics board member. Sequoia Capital also participated in the round. Qualtrics's XM platform is designed to let clients manage customer, product, employee and brand experiences on a single system. The company has named Murray Demo, the chief financial officer (CFO) of Atlassian, to its board of directors, where he will chair the audit committee.

Baird Commentary: How the IoT Revolution Is Driving Consolidation

In a recent commentary on the ever-evolving Internet of Things (IoT) revolution, Baird's senior technology bankers discuss how the proliferation of IoT-enabled software and services and ongoing industry consolidation.

Today's sophisticated IoT software and systems not only connect disparate devices, they collect, verify and cleanse data -- diminishing the long-time challenge of cutting through "noise" inherent to data aggregation and facilitating in-depth analysis and application of the collected information into actionable intelligence. This IoT revolution is quickly catching up to its hype by transforming businesses across many sectors. The value of IoT technology has become imperative, and growing demand is fueling tremendous acquisition interest from a diverse range of buyers, pushing competition higher and accelerating consolidation in the space.
