o Foster City-Based Conviva Raises $40 Million in New Funding Round

Foster City, Calif. -- Conviva, the Foster City-based developer of a platform designed to provide clients with key data about film and TV content delivered over the Internet, said on Thursday it has raised $40 million in a new round of funding. Participants included new investor Future Fund, as well as previous backers New Enterprise Associates (NEA), Foundation Capital and Time Warner Investments. The company said it will use the proceeds to develop new products, bolster sales and marketing activities and expand internationally. "We are excited to close this round of funding so we can accelerate our new product offerings and our global market expansion, extending our technology and market leadership in OTT [over-the-top content] measurement and analytics," said co-founder and CEO Hui Zhang. Conviva's software sensors are currently deployed across 2.5 billion devices, measuring more than 1 billion streaming minutes a day of video content for publishers such as HBO, Sky and Turner.

o Intel Gains Israeli Antitrust Approval to Complete Mobileye Deal

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Intel, the Santa Clara-based chipmaker, said it has cleared another hurdle in its bid to acquire Israel's Mobileye, gaining antitrust clearance in Israel. That satisfies one of the closing conditions of the $15.3 billion deal, which Intel said will bolster its position in the fast-growing market for autonomous vehicle systems, data and services, expected to grow to $70 billion by 2030. The company last month launched a cash tender offer, paying $63.54 a share. That tender offer is scheduled to expire on June 21, unless extended or earlier terminated. In order to complete the acquisition, Intel first must be tendered at least 95% of Mobileye's outstanding shares.

o Survey: 78% of People Believe Online Reviews Are Reliable

Lyon, France -- About 78% of people believe online reviews are reliable, and nearly 60% say they're equally as trustworthy as reviews provided by friends, according to a new report by technology market research firm ReportLinker. More than 500 U.S. respondents took part in the March survey. Where they search, however, depends on what they're looking for. For instance, when looking for restaurants, consumers check Yelp 53% of the time, while 57% go to Amazon and eBay for product reviews. By far the most popular category of online reviews is electronics (71%), followed by hotel and restaurant reviews. But despite their extensive reliance on these reviews, only 51% of online shoppers say they take the time to write them. "Marketing professionals often fear online reviews because a negative one can potentially harm their brand. Yet, the benefits could be greater than the risks," the report states. "Businesses that embrace online reviews are likely to see sales rise, while those who ignore them may miss out on a significant number of potential customers." The full report is at the link below.
