o San Francisco-Based OnboardIQ Raises $9.1 Million in First Round

San Francisco -- OnboardIQ, the San Francisco-based developer of a hiring automation platform for hourly workers, said on Thursday it has raised $9.1 million in its first round of funding, led by Origin Ventures. SoftTech VC, Crosslink Capital and Y Combinator also participated. Brent Hill, a partner at Origin Ventures, has joined the company's board of directors. Founded by Jeremy Cai and Keith Ryu, OnboardIQ has developed a cloud-based platform that uses machine learning and automation to address challenges commonly faced by HR and operations teams when hiring large workforces. "Companies are now using OnboardIQ to process over 300,000 applications each month," said Cai, who serves as chief operating officer (COO). "[The platform] is purpose-built to serve hourly workers, a demographic that makes up the majority of the global workforce but has been overlooked by modern HR software."

o Mountain View-Based Symantec to Acquire Fireglass

Mountain View, Calif. -- Symantec, the Mountain View-based cybersecurity giant, said on Thursday it will acquire Israel-based Fireglass, a developer of technology designed to eliminate ransomware, malware and phishing threats by preventing potentially harmful content from reaching user endpoints or corporate networks. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of September, were not disclosed. Fireglass' browser isolation technology is designed to open all potentially harmful websites, emails and attachments within a separate protected environment, protecting users regardless of the links they click or the sites they visit. Symantec said the acquisition will bolster its Integrated Cyber Defense Platform, while also extending its secure web gateway and email protection offerings. "Integrating Fireglass' isolation technology with Symantec's existing endpoint, email and secure web gateway solutions could reduce security events by as much as 70%, while virtually eliminating advanced threats spread by web browsing or email content," said Symantec CEO Greg Clark. "Isolation will become a core component in the design of cyber defense architectures for the cloud generation." Fireglass is backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Norwest Venture Partners.
