o Palo Alto-Based Forward Networks Raises $16 Million in Second Round

Palo Alto, Calif. -- Forward Networks, the Palo Alto-based developer of a platform that uses advanced modeling and analytics to precisely analyze the behavior of networks with thousands of nodes, said it has raised $16 million in its second round of funding, led by DFJ. Andreessen Horowitz and A.Capital Ventures also took part in the round, which increased the company's total backing to $27 million. Forward's core platform, which launched from stealth last November, is designed to build behavioral models of networks, eliminating manual, cumbersome and error-prone activities that network operators must endure on a daily basis. The company also has unveiled Forward Essentials, a new product that helps network operators reduce the time to root-cause network and security issues, as well as improve overall efficiency and time to market for network changes.

The insider-led round included participation from Third Point Ventures, InCube Ventures, Aperture Venture Partners, Scientific Health Development, Longwood Fund and Boston Scientific. Seattle -- After receiving regulatory clearance from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), online retail giant Amazon said on Thursday it plans to close its $13.7 billion acquisition of upscale supermarket chain Whole Foods Market on Monday.
