San Jose, Calif. -- Western Digital, the San Jose-based developer of storage technologies, said on Tuesday it will acquire Newark-based Tegile Systems, a maker of flash and persistent-memory storage tools for enterprise data centers. Financial terms of the deal, expected to be completed next week, were not disclosed. Western Digital said the addition of Tegile's IntelliFlash products, focused on fast data, to its ActiveScale products, focused on big data, will bolster its Data Center Systems (DCS) business unit. "Not only will we gain an exceptional group of team members, but also expand our product offerings in the fast-growing solid-state and hybrid array segments," said Phil Bullinger, Western Digital's senior vice president and general manager of DCS. Redwood City, Calif. -- Zum, the Redwood City-based developer of a mobile service that lets parents schedule rides for their kids and track them through their devices, said on Tuesday it has raised $5.5 million in its first round of funding, led by Sequoia Capital. Bryan Schreier, a partner at Sequoia, has joined the company's board of directors. Zum said it will use the proceeds to accelerate product and market expansion, as well as continue development of strategic partnerships and initiatives. Zum's approach matches families from more than 800 schools in the San Francisco Bay Area and Orange County with a small pool of drivers. Bethesda, Md. -- Last week's solar eclipse drove more than 40 million views to NASA's livestream of the event, IT contractor InfoZen said on Tuesday. The feed drew record levels of livestream traffic to NASA.gov and social media channels such as Facebook, UStream, YouTube, Periscope and Twitch. NASA.gov's Eclipse Live page peaked at about 3 million simultaneous views -- several times larger than reported streaming numbers for recent Super Bowls. Palo Alto, Calif. --Recvue, the Palo Alto-based developer of a recurring revenue and billing management platform, said on Tuesday it has raised raised $2 million in a new round of funding, led by Cota Capital. The company, formerly known as ad-Orb, said it plans to use the proceeds to help accelerate growth.
