o Fremont-based Royole Raises $800 Million in Fourth Round of Funding

Fremont, Calif. -- Fremont-based Royole announced that it has raised a total of $800 million in its fourth round of funding through a combination of equity and debt financing. The company said it has a $3 billion valuation after the funding. The Series D funding includes: $240 million in equity financing from Warmsun Holding Group, Hanfor Capital, SPD Bank, Zhonghai Shengrong Capital, and TanShi Capital; and $560 million of debt financing from Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, China CITIC Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, and Ping An Bank. The company was co-founded in Silicon Valley, Shenzhen and Hong Kong in 2012 by three Stanford and Tsinghua engineering graduates. Royole is a manufacturer of human-machine interface technologies and products such as advanced flexible displays, sensors, and smart devices.

o San Francisco-based Chime Raises $18 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Chime, a San Francisco-based mobile banking firm, announced that it has raised $18 million in its second round of financing, led by global venture fund Cathay Innovation. The company said it has opened over half a million accounts since launching in 2014; the company was founded by Chris Britt and Ryan King. "Look at any of the headlines these days and it's clear that traditional US banks continue to fail millions of Americans with adversarial practices and opaque fee structures," said Britt. "This financing allows us to rapidly scale a new approach to mobile banking."

Mountain View, Calif. -- Passage.AI announced on Wednesday that it is coming out of stealth. The company is developing an AI-driven conversational interfaces used for creating chatbots. The company said it has raised $3 million in seed funding to date from a group led by Engineering Capital, Storm Ventures, Seabed VC, Milliways Ventures, Array VC, Gunderson Dettmer, NeoTribe Ventures, Eleven Two Capital and individual angel investors. Passage.AI is led by Madhu Mathihalli and Ravi Raj, both formerly of WalmartLabs, and Mitul Tiwari, who worked at LinkedIn.

o NPR Launches NPR Wine Club With Outside Partners

Washington, D.C. -- Expanding beyond its core operations, DC-based public radio network NPR announced a new wine membership club for its members, called NPR Wine Club. San Francisco -- interviewing.io, an anonymous hiring platform, announced that it has raised $3 million in seed funding. The investment was led by Susa Ventures, with participation from Social Capital, Ulu Ventures, Kapor Capital, TenOneTen Ventures, Manifest Investment Partners, and others. The company has developed a blind, performance-based approach to hiring. It says its platform has been used by Facebook, Lyft, and Twitch. "While working as a software engineer at companies like Google and LinkedIn, I saw how much time was wasted on interviewing mediocre candidates just because they had nice resumes, and how hard it was for candidates without recognizable brands on their resumes to get a fair shot," said Leo Polovets, a partner at Susa Ventures.
