San Francisco -- Shares of Yelp spiked more than 60% by midday Friday, hours after the San Francisco-based local business reviews company priced its $107 million initial public offering (IPO). The company priced 7.1 million shares at $15 -- higher than estimates of $12-$14 -- in a deal that values it at approximately $900 million. The company has yet to turn a profit since its founding in 2004. Yelp had a monthly average of 66 million unique visitors in the fourth quarter, according to Google Analytics, and its users have written more than 25 million reviews of local businesses. The company generates revenue by selling ads to local businesses. Shares are now trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "YELP."

o San Francisco-Based Yammer Lands $85 Million in Fifth Round

San Francisco -- Yammer, the San Francisco-based provider of social networks to companies designed to allow employees to more easily collaborate, said it has raised $85 million in its fifth round of funding, led by DFJ Growth. Other participants included new investors Meritech Capital Partners, Capricorn Investment Group, Khosla Ventures and CrunchFund, along with previous backers Charles River Ventures, Emergence Capital, Founders Fund, Social+Capital Partnership and U.S. Venture Partners and angels Bill Lee, Max Levchin and Ronnie Lott. The company, which now has raised $142 million since its inception, said it will use the latest round to consider potential acquisitions and invest in building brand awareness. On March 1, Yammer will launch its first advertising campaign with print and online ads. "This significant influx of capital provides us with the resources to expand quickly and strategically, innovate rapidly and extend our market leadership," said founder and CEO David Sacks.

o San Mateo-Based SolarCity Raises $81 Million in New Funding Round

San Mateo, Calif. -- SolarCity, the San Mateo-based developer and installer of clean energy systems, said it has raised $81 million in a new round of funding, co-led by Silver Lake Kraftwerk and Valor Equity Partners. The round also included investments from Nicholas Pritzker, a partner at Tao Ventures and senior development advisor for Hyatt Hotels, and Shea Ventures, an affiliate of SolarCity partner Shea Homes, as well as SolarCity Chairman Elon Musk and previous backer DBL Investors. The company said it will use the proceeds to expand its sales, marketing and operations activities, as well as for technology development and potential acquisitions. "This investment provides SolarCity the resources to explore new products and services and identify new geographies and potential acquisitions," said CEO Lyndon Rive. Founded in 2006, SolarCity has more than 20,000 projects completed or underway in 14 states and Washington, DC.

o Mountain View-Based Appcelerator Raises Another $16 Million

Mountain View, Calif. -- Appcelerator, the Mountain View-based creator of a platform used by developers to create iOS and Android apps, has raised $16 million in a new round of equity funding, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Identities of the three investors were not disclosed. The news comes just four months after the company closed a $15 million funding round, which included participation by Mayfield Fund, TransLink Capital, Red Hat, eBay, Sierra Ventures and Storm Ventures.

o San Mateo-Based Emergence Capital Closes New $250 Million Fund

San Mateo, Calif. -- Emergence Capital Partners, a San Mateo-based venture capital firm focused on the technology services industry, said it has closed a new $250 million found -- its third overall. The fund, known as Emergence Capital Partners III, will be managed by general partners Jason Green, Brian Jacobs, Gordon Ritter and Kevin Spain, along with other key team members. The nine-year-old firm -- an early investor in companies such as Salesforce.com, SuccessFactors, EchoSign, Yammer, Lithium, YouSendIt, Box and Veeva Systems -- now has $575 million under management.

o San Jose-Based Tessera to Acquire Camera Module Business

San Jose, Calif. -- Tessera Technologies, a San Jose-based developer of semiconductor packaging and camera module technologies, said on Friday it will pay $23 million in cash acquire certain assets of Vista Point Technologies, a manufacturer of camera modules, from owner Flextronics International. The deal, expected to close by the third quarter, includes assets of the business located in China, along with equity interests of a foreign enterprise that will own those assets. Tessera subsidiary DigitalOptics Corp. (DOC) said the business will have a capacity to manufacture approximately 50 million camera modules a year at its 135,000-square-foot facility. Robert Young, the president and CEO of Tessera, called the acquisition "a critical step in our strategy of transforming DOC from an optical and image enhancement software and components business into a Tier One qualified, vertically integrated supplier of next-generation camera modules to the $9-billion market for mobile cameras."
