The move will give Facebook a similar offering to Google, Apple and Amazon. "The App Center gives you personalized recommendations, and lets you browse the apps your friends use," the company wrote. "It only lists high-quality apps, based on feedback from people who use the app." The App Center is starting with 600 apps, and was made available in the United States on Friday. It will launch around the world over the next two weeks. Some of the apps featured on the App Center include Draw Something, Pinterest, and Nike+ GPS. Trms of the deal were not disclosed. Founded in 2005, Vela was backed with venture capital from Commonwealth Capital Ventures and GrandBanks Capital. Founded in 2008 and headquartered Massachusetts, with an Israel-based R&D division, Kaminario focuses on storage systems, networking, operating systems, and data processing. The company serves customers in a range of industries, including financial services, telecommunications, web service providers, and government bureaus and agencies.
