Previous investors Benchmark Capital, Sutter Hill Ventures and Battery Ventures also participated in the round, which increases the company's total backing to $42.2 million. Tastemaker, which is currently operating on an invitation-only basis, matches interior decorators with homeowners, who provide photographs and measurements of their rooms. The photos are then used by the decorators to provide color and furnishing recommendations. Websites most impacted were news and media sites, with CNN, Weather.com, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal and The Los Angeles Times among the hardest hit. Weather.com, for example, experienced a significant slow-down starting at 1:42 p.m. EDT Monday, lasting until 4:50 p.m. EDT. During this time, the site either was completely unavailable or taking more than 30 seconds to load. MarketWatch even posted a notice on its home page saying, "We are experiencing technical difficulties. The full MarketWatch site will return shortly." As of Sept. 30, USA Today had daily print circulation of just over 1.6 million, topping the Wall Street Journal (1.5 million) and the New York Times (717,000). The San Jose Mercury News stood at just below 125,000. When paired with digital circulation, however, the Wall Street Journal leads the way at 2.3 million (up 9.4%), followed by USA Today at 1.7 million (down 3.9%) and the New York Times at 1.6 million (up 40.3%). The Mercury News ranks sixth at 530,000 (up 0.5%). All told, daily circulation for the 613 reporting U.S. newspapers decreased 0.2%, though Sunday circulation increased 0.6%.
