Previous backers Accel Partners and Menlo Ventures and new investor Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers also participated in the round, which increases the company's total funding to $47.8 million. The company said it will use the proceeds to grow its engineering team, broaden its product line and expand into new sales channels. Founded in 2009 by Greg Duffy and Aamir Virani, Dropcam offers a Wi-Fi video monitoring camera and optional cloud recording service that lets people remotely keep tabs on their homes, pets or anything else from a smartphone, tablet or computer. ZoomSystems said that Vigix's technology, which requires only a small amount of floor or shelf-space, will allow it to expand its presence into thousands of major retail stores. Founded in 2004, Vigix said its technology helps address the growing problem of retail shrink by offering a small, secure way to sell products such as cell phones and watches without placing them behind the cash register.
