o Mountain View-Based Pure Storage Lands $150 Million in Funding

Mountain View, Calif. -- Pure Storage, a Mountain View-based developer of all-flash storage technology, on Thursday announced a massive new $150 million round of funding, which the company said is the largest funding event in the history of the enterprise storage industry. T. Rowe Price, Tiger Global Management and other unspecified investors led the company's fifth round, which also included participation from previous backers Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Samsung Ventures and Sutter Hill Ventures. The company, which is planning to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in the not-too-distant future, now has raised $245 million since its inception. It plans to use the latest funds to accelerate expansion of its European and Asia-based operations, as well as grow its sales, support and marketing teams and increase investments in research and development.

o San Francisco-Based Twitter Acquires Trendrr

San Francisco -- Twitter, the San Francisco-based social media giant, said on Thursday it has acquired New York-based Trendrr, whose platform is designed to track and analyze social media content related to TV. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Having sat at this intersection of TV and social media for years, we've analyzed data from lots of platforms. What makes Twitter uniquely compelling among these platforms is its connection to the live moment -- people sharing what’s happening, when it's happening, to the world," wrote Mark Ghuneim, the founder and CEO of Trendrr, in a blog post. "We think we can help amplify even stronger the power of that connection to the moment inside of Twitter."
