o Mountain View-Based Pure Storage Lands $150 Million in Funding

Mountain View, Calif. -- Pure Storage, a Mountain View-based developer of all-flash storage technology, on Thursday announced a massive new $150 million round of funding, which the company said is the largest funding event in the history of the enterprise storage industry. T. Rowe Price, Tiger Global Management and other unspecified investors led the company's fifth round, which also included participation from previous backers Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, Redpoint Ventures, Samsung Ventures and Sutter Hill Ventures. The company, which is planning to launch its initial public offering (IPO) in the not-too-distant future, now has raised $245 million since its inception. It plans to use the latest funds to accelerate expansion of its European and Asia-based operations, as well as grow its sales, support and marketing teams and increase investments in research and development.

o San Francisco-Based Twitter Acquires Trendrr

San Francisco -- Twitter, the San Francisco-based social media giant, said on Thursday it has acquired New York-based Trendrr, whose platform is designed to track and analyze social media content related to TV. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Having sat at this intersection of TV and social media for years, we've analyzed data from lots of platforms. What makes Twitter uniquely compelling among these platforms is its connection to the live moment -- people sharing what’s happening, when it's happening, to the world," wrote Mark Ghuneim, the founder and CEO of Trendrr, in a blog post. "We think we can help amplify even stronger the power of that connection to the moment inside of Twitter."

o Santa Clara-Based Nexenta Names Tarkan Maner as Chairman and CEO

Santa Clara, Calif. -- Nexenta, a Santa Clara-based developer of software-defined storage tools, on Thursday named Tarkan Maner as its new chairman and CEO. He succeeds Mark Lockareff, who had served as the company's interim CEO since February. Maner previously held executive roles at Dell, Wyse, CA, IBM, Quest and Sterling Software, and is the founding chairman of TechAmerica's cloud computing commission. The news comes six months after Nexenta raised $24 million in its fourth round of funding, led by new investor Four Rivers Group. Lockareff at that time also simultaneously took over for former CEO Evan Powell, who assumed the role of chief strategy officer.

o Audax Health Raises $20 Million in Second Round

San Francisco -- Audax Health, a Washington, DC-based digital health startup with West Coast offices in San Francisco, said it has raised $20 million in its second round of funding, led by Navigy Holdings, a nit of Florida's largest health insurer. Other participants included current board member Jack Rowe; Dan Rose, the vice president of partnerships at Facebook, and other individuals. The company said it will use the funds to bolster product development activities, expand its mobile and engineering teams in Washington, DC and San Francisco, and forge more partnerships with healthcare insurers and providers. Founded in 2010, Audax Health is the creator of Zensey, an anonymous social network focused on improving personal health. The platform creates a personalized lifestyle plan for users, allowing them to connect and compete with others like them, track their progress and earn rewards. The company previously had raised $35 million.

o Redwood City-Based Shutterfly Acquires R&R Images

Redwood City, Calif. -- Shutterfly, the Redwood City-based photo and personalized products site, said on Thursday it has acquired Phoenix-based R&R Images, a provider of stationery printing and product design services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Shutterfly said the acquisition will bolster its design and printing capabilities. "We are making additional strategic investments in our manufacturing footprint focused on providing our customers with innovative, high quality personalized products while efficiently scaling and managing our costs," said Jeffrey Housenbold, the president and CEO of Shutterfly.
