For the 20th straight year, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates is the richest person in America, according to the newly released Forbes 400, an annual compilation of the country's richest people, based on their estimated net worth. Gates tops the list at $72 billion, followed by financier Warren Buffett ($58.5 billion) and Oracle founder Larry Ellison ($41 billion). Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin rank Nos. 13 and 14, respectively, while Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg ranks No. 20. The complete list is at the top link below.

o San Francisco-Based Splunk to Acquire BugSense

San Francisco -- Splunk, the San Francisco-based developer of a software platform for real-time operational intelligence, said on Monday it will acquire San Francisco-based BugSense, developer of an analytics tool for machine data generated by mobile devices. Financial terms of the deal, expected to close by the end of October, were not disclosed. Founded in 2011, BugSense provides users with analytics such as mobile app performance, app quality, troubleshooting and usage, based on data from mobile devices. Splunk said the acquisition will allow its customers to analyze machine data directly from mobile devices, then correlate it with other machine-generated data.

Half, Moon, Bay, Calif. -- Project Partners, a Half Moon Bay-based provider of services designed to optimize business processes and information technology investments, said on Monday it has acquired Massachusetts-based serVelocity, a provider of operations strategy consulting services. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Robert Armour and Steven Sexton, the former co-managing partners of serVelocity, will join Project Partners in unspecified roles. "With this acquisition we now provide our clients with a broader set of capabilities necessary to achieve their business goals," said David McNeil, vice president of Project Partners.

o Survey: 8% of Bay Area CFOs Expect to Add New Jobs in Q4

San Francisco -- Eight percent of CFOs in the DC area expect to add new professional-level positions by year's end, according to a new forecast from Robert Half.
Another 71% said they plan to hire for role that open during the next three months. Fifteen percent say they will not be hiring, while 5% plan to reduce staff levels. "Recruiting challenges persist throughout the Bay Area, particularly within fields such as tax, financial services, hospitality and healthcare," said Sharon Black, senior district president for Robert Half in the Bay Area. "As companies prepare for year-end and the upcoming tax season, senior accountants, financial analysts, auditors and customer service representatives will continue to be in demand locally." The results are based on interviews with 200 CFOs from Bay Area companies with at least 20 employees.
