o Revolution Ventures Raises $200M for Early-Stage Tech Fund

San Francisco -- Revolution Ventures, the first fund from Steve Case's investment firm Revolution focused on early-stage technology companies, said it expects to close $200 million in new commitments on Monday. Case, the co-founder of AOL, along with Tige Savage and David Golden, will lead the fund, which is believed to be the largest first-time venture fund launched outside of Silicon Valley since the 2008 financial crisis. Washington Capitals and Wizards majority owner Ted Leonsis also is an investor in the fund, which Revolution raised in just eight months. The fund, which will make roughly 20 investments over a three to four year period, will be based in Washington, DC, but will also maintain a West Coast office in San Francisco. "While we're big fans of Silicon Valley, we've long believed that a lot of great entrepreneurs and great young companies can also be found outside of Silicon Valley," said Case. Revolution said that four of its prior investments -- Chicago-based BenchPrep, New York-based Booker Software, DC-based Homesnap and Boston-based RunKeeper -- will be managed by the fund.
