o SwiftKey Raises $17.5 Million; CEO Relocating to San Francisco

San Francisco -- SwiftKey, the U.K.-based developer of a popular keyboard app for Android devices, said on Wednesday it has raised $17.5 million in its second round of funding, led by Index Ventures. Previous investor Octopus Investments and a number of angel investors also took part in the round. In conjunction with the funding, co-founder and CEO Jon Reynolds will relocate to the company's U.S. headquarters in San Francisco to oversee its U.S. rollout. Richard Gibson, SwiftKey's CFO, said the new funding will carry the company through its next phase of growth. "With revenues increasing substantially, we'll have the financial resource to grow our team and continue to build market leading mobile technologies," said Gibson. Founded in 2008, SwiftKey previously had raised $4 million in funding.

ABCIA provides sales, support and customer training for Agilent products such as gas and liquid chromatographs, mass spectrometers, atomic and molecular spectroscopy systems and bioanalyzers. o Survey: More Bay Area CIOs Planning to Hire in Fourth Quarter

Menlo Park, Calif. -- More Bay Area chief information officers (CIOs) are planning to hire in the fourth quarter, according to a new survey by Menlo Park-based Robert Half Technology. Thirteen percent of the 200 local technology executives surveyed said they plan to expand their IT teams by the end of the year, up 1% from last quarter, while another 66% plan to hire to fill open IT roles, up 5%. "The fourth quarter often brings many infrastructure changes and year-end projects," said Megan Slabinski, Bay Area district president of Robert Half Technology. "We're seeing companies looking to grow their permanent teams, which leads to more direct hires and contract-to-hire opportunities. Additionally, many Bay Area companies are willing to accelerate their hiring process in order to secure top tech talent; otherwise they risk losing out to competitors."
